Don't understand why really? Not, because of the 'they won't sell to their rivals' theory I hope. If so, I'm confident they still view Man Utd as one of their rivals and still sold Mata to them last season. Also, guess we'll be seen as a bit of a rival to them. They will sell to whoever if the price is right imo.

Mata had become an albatross around Mourinho's neck and no one else was interested in paying so much for him. I doubt Chelsea saw it as ideal, but they'll have been glad to put an end to the endless media scrutiny that the decision to drop him was bringing.

Consistent top flight goalscorers are the hardest thing to come by in football. I just can't see them being willing to hand one to Liverpool, especially considering what's happened with Sturridge.
