Lallana is English though. For a talented footballer, being English pretty much doubles your price.

When I say £40M + I mean a Chelsea £40M the fact they are taking £50m for Luiz shows me they can dictate the price for their players and it won't surprise me if that happens to Lukaku.

Exactly this. Chelsea hold the strongest position. They will sell him on their terms. Then comes Lukaku and his agent (who will be pimping him out to all the richest clubs over the next month or two). If he has a good WC, he will go for big bucks. Even if he has a poor one, I think he will still hold out for a move to a more "glamorous" club.
I don't know how far down the list we are-maybe 3rd or 4th choice? Even that's being optimistic. But you know what? Stranger things have happened:)

There was a point through the season I genuinely believed we were going to get Lukaku for £20m. How ridiculous that looks now.

The only advantage we have is that Mourinho/Chelsea really do seem to think so little of us and don't seem to fancy Lukaku as a player, meaning they'd deal with us without any sort of need to break our balls (like they did with Man U over Mata).

But in all honesty, I think our chances of getting Lukaku now are as remote as England turning Italy over 4-0.

Martinez will help though. His total positivity and focus on Everton as a force instead of '7th is great' mentality, will rub off on potential targets. We should have a decent amount to spend this summer too. Until he decides his future I am certain we will have our hat firmly in the ring and hope he can see what we are trying to achieve here.

I suspect the RS have just turned this transfer window on its arse with their £25m bid for Lallana, if we could somehow get Lukaku this summer for the same price we've done well.
Was just about to say exact same thing them overspending will strengthen Chelsea's position not ours

You're right there about Martinez;) but I think it's only what makes the difference between us having half a chance and no chance at all with Lukaku. What keeps me feeling positive about the situation is that I think RM will have identified other targets as well and even if they are not as good as Lukaku, I think RM has the ability to bring out the best in players and get them adapted to our system.

I don't think it's a case of either Chelsea or in particular, Mourinho not rating Lukaku.

It's more a personality clash and Lukaku has definitely rubbed Mourinho up the wrong way.

When that happens, there's usually only one outcome.

Yes, and we've seen with Mata that he can marginalise a player and still sell him for £37 million. He's no fool, is he?!

We still have a chance. The OS are still reporting the news of Rom whilst we heard nothing on the other loan players ever since.

Something I think works in our favour is that we are not an every year CL club, i mean if Lukaku himself wants to stay in the PL, I mean are Chelsea going to sell him to the likes of Arsenal, Utd etc - don't think so - we're- reasonably attractive club for them to sell him to as I don't think they see us a direct rival - I'm not so sure they will ell him though, we all assume they will, I personally feel Mourhino falls out with almost all his players, Lukaku is no different, Lukaku is a good egg overall and Mrs Mourhino raised no fools! I don't think it's a given he's on his way!
