My own view is that we did pay a bit too much but I would have still paid it if the choice was not to have him. Unfortunately it was just one of those that Chelsea needed to sell him a lot less than we needed to buy him and there's the hope (or fear if you're Chelsea) that he will go on to be a world class striker which will make it seem a bargain so that pushed the price up.

If he was English he would've cost 50m. He's 21, his record in what most consider to be the toughest league in the world is second to none. If anything, 28m was a bargain, especially considering his wage demands which weren't ludicrous; Baines is still our highest paid player. To put this into perspective, Lukaku is on the same money as Ricky Lambert and Andy Caroll

I know he was on loan for us last year but I can't wait to see him in the #10 shirt and know that he is our player. I've watched his press conference a few times and seeing how he and Martinez have fallen in love with the club never gets old

Considering most sauces suggest he cost less and the 28M is the final figure with add-ons (likely CL or goals scored) the price is right for what your getting.
