Since Walsh is allergic to signing left footed players, we obviously are stuck with these 2 no marks.

But I think it's time for Garbutt. Not sure about the thrown in the deep end stuff either. He's 24 now not 18. This would be undoubtedly his last chance at the club and probably his last chance of a crack at top flight football. But it's a chance he wouldn't have expected to come again so he should be relishing. He'll never be good enough but it's possible he could perform at an acceptable level where he does the basics of defending and offers a left footed option.

Also puts him in the shop window fir somebody to take him off our hands in the summer.

Look at how many diamonds Unsworth has turned out. When he talks positively about a player , you listen.
I think they realised that Garbutt was weak defensively and sent him back to the academy and to Unsworth to work on that side of his game.

At least listening to Unsworth that would be my guess as he talks about having him with the under 23s for the last six months and how hard he worked on certain parts of jis game.

Garbutt was looking very good till his lone deal to Fulham - he picked up a very nasty injury early on - Unsy reckons he has his fitness back and has improved defensively as well as being a great asset going forwards - he also is left footed!
For a left back that is a big plus - give him a chance in the team would be better tha CuCu the clown!

I have to agree mate, there was a spell there under Boberto, that he came in for Baines when injured and even when Baines was fit he was still getting games, i think it was around the timehe was getting a new contract. He more then passed muster for me, i think he was one of best players in a tough match in the Europa it might have been dortmund or someone away.

That loan to Fulham didnt do him any favours, Sessengonon must have broke through at the same time.

As we found out, throwing money at a situation isnt always the right answer.

hes had that squad number all year on Wikipedia showing in the reserves sqaud, I remember seeing it and thinking "36??"

I thought I read that he's only recently been included by the club/added to the first team on the website? Suggests more of an intention to use him I think.

maybe, and stance on him may have changed, all I was saying is he has deffo had number 36 on Wikipedia all season, and as I say was showing on the reserves team wiki rather than first team

Was it the 0-2 at Wolfsburg. I remember him doing well in those Europa league games, got forward, overlapped and put in some good crosses - both on the run and dead ball.

The Fulham move was a bad one and he's been in the wilderness since. I'd like to see him given a go especially as it would be anther dimension to our attack with FB overlapping.

He won't change our style of play, only Fat Sam will do that and from the noises he is making the idea of a full back breaking forward and getting to the opposition byline to fire in crosses to on rushing forwards and midfielders isn't really on the agenda.
