Luke Garbutt

Only seen play a few times (most recently in the 3-0 Portsmouth win), and have to say that he doesn't particularly stand out for me.

Sometimes you can watch a game and there will be a player (or two) that make you think 'He's too good for this level, he needs to move up'. But I didn't get that with Garbutt; he seems to fit in well where he is. But what do I know about football? 'Sod all' is the answer to that one; so hopefully I'm wrong, and he can can come in and do the business.

Would much prefer one of our own get a chance then sign a Martina to cover Baines.

We should aspire to give players at our club opportunities.
Garbutt was looking very good till his lone deal to Fulham - he picked up a very nasty injury early on - Unsy reckons he has his fitness back and has improved defensively as well as being a great asset going forwards - he also is left footed!
For a left back that is a big plus - give him a chance in the team would be better tha CuCu the clown!

At least if Garbutt plays , it will hopefully the negate the need to stop and cross with his right foot. Our so-called attacks loses there momentum when this constantly happens.

This situation is ideal for Garbutt to have a chance to prove himself a true PL player. The time for "potential" is done! It is time for him to step up, and BE the Everton first team left back.

If he can't pull it off this time round, with a cast off right back and an injured 30 year old as his only competition, it will never happen.

Does anyone know the exact date he’s aloud to be registered? It says next month on a lot of quotes, which if this is true means we are still stuck with Martina against Leicester and probably worse still Arsenal away....

Since Walsh is allergic to signing left footed players, we obviously are stuck with these 2 no marks.

But I think it's time for Garbutt. Not sure about the thrown in the deep end stuff either. He's 24 now not 18. This would be undoubtedly his last chance at the club and probably his last chance of a crack at top flight football. But it's a chance he wouldn't have expected to come again so he should be relishing. He'll never be good enough but it's possible he could perform at an acceptable level where he does the basics of defending and offers a left footed option.

He put in some superb free kicks and corners against Portsmouth and probably wasn’t noticed as much as some as Portsmouth hardly had the ball in our half and we tended to attack with our central players.

He may not be the answer long term, but there is no doubt he cannot be worse than a not very good right back playing left back terribly.
