Thank god Mccarthys fit, i like cleverly but hes a bit crap in that role.

Robles plays aswell
Sagey as much as i respect you as a decent poster on here , i can't have the word crap and cleverley in the same sentence, the guy has done great with an injury punctuated start. For a freebie i don't think we could do any better.

As i said i like him, been a really good signing but prefer him on the wing or more advanced. I was talking about him in a deeper role as a direct replacement for besic or mccarthy, he loses shape too much in that role

That really made me mad.

I increasingly can't stand him. It started at bemusement at his comments, then pure confusion, then a stage were I thought it must all have a "master plan" type of purpose.

Now I just can't stand watching him open his stupid mouth.

Agreed about the left side, his workrate helps bainsey out massively. We need energy in that midfield, tomorrow, maybe lennon and cleverley in the wide positions.

It's what I'd go with personally, with Del and Kone/Pienaar to bring on.

Cleverley is a good player and has been a very good signing, but @sageyefc is right in that he loses discipline when playing a deeper role - as that isn't his natural game.

He's better in a box-to-box role or out left.

Hmmmm, i'd agree, but in this case that's out of context.

What he actually said was "we need to go into the game with no fear, and nothing to lose. On our day and with our support we are a match for anyone."

So he said "nothing to lose" then.

Yes but in the context that we must go into the game with nothing to fear... and with self-belief.

Would you rather him say we should go there and admit we can't match City so just sit back and hope for the best???

There is no context there; he's just wrong. We have something to lose. There's no way in any way, shape or form we have "nothing" to lose in this match.

We do have something to fear - elimination from a competition. If you're a winning side, you have that fear and it's supposed to drive you on.

It's a "knife to a gunfight" comment once again.

If anything it's the exact opposite to what he's saying surely, as he's bigging up our chances by saying we've got nothing to fear - and if we have nothing to fear we've got nothing to lose?

So how would saying 'yeh we're not the better side, we have to fear the opposition and elimination to inspire us to victory?' be bigging up our chances?

We go there with a lead, and despite the terrible performance on Sunday, with confidence.

I don't agree with a lot of what Martinez has done lately, but that comment really isn't anything to get heated about. It's himn saying 'we know we can win this'... or that's how I see it anyway

I think it may well be
Robles.

Coleman
Jagielka
Funes Mori
Baines

Barry
McCarthy

Lennon
Barkley
Cleverly

Lukaku.

Lennon in for Del to give cover to Coleman and Del getting a breather to come on in the last quarter to have an impact.

I really cannot see us keeping another clean sheet against these lot. I think its a case of how many can score and before they do will settle the tie.

There have been times where we cannot hang on for 45 seconds against Bournemouth away or Chelsea so i see little hope in us just trying to hang on for 90+ minutes.
