One of the big differences between Utd and RS fans I've noticed is that Utd fans know everyone hates them.
The RS think everyone likes them.

Humility and likeable are not words I would associate with that lot.Hated them when they won everything. However I had to say the "barren years" have brought a bit of humility to the club and the fans. They are more likeable now.
I said this to a mate who supports United and he tried to blame the players around him dragging him out of position.Magurie is pony

I have lots of others though.
I remember the years before they won the league in the 90's, their fans were awful, had this self righteous attitude of being the biggest club in the world. When they started to win everything they seemed to mellow a bit, but was probably because they had a lot of the 'prawn sandwich' brigade and were mainly teleclappers. Still not as bad as any generation of rs fans though.Hated them when they won everything. However I had to say the "barren years" have brought a bit of humility to the club and the fans. Man United fans can be annoying sometimes, but they're not even close to the worst of LFC fans when it comes to poison and nastiness
As a lifelong Man City fan living in Manchester I can tell you that you are 100% correct.Man United fans can be annoying sometimes, but they're not even close to the worst of LFC fans when it comes to poison and nastiness

Its also tricky for the oppressive more successful local rival to adjust when the tables turn. Look at the RS when we had our success in the 80s and the bile that spewed forth because they couldnt take us doing so well. Believe me, we wouldnt have a chip on our shoulders now with success.Grew up in Stockport so I spent my whole childhood with a mixture of City and United fans
Found both of them reasonable for the most part, City perhaps more so. Lot of City fans I knew had fond feelings towards Big Joe, so we bonded over that
The only negative I can say for some City fans is that the success doesn't seem to have made them happy and they still have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. I do wonder sometimes if us Evertonians would be the same if we ever have some success. You spend so long getting beaten down and living in the mindset of fighting from underneath against your oppressive local rival that I imagine it can be tricky to adjust if the tables ever turn
