2019/20 Marcel Brands

Iwobi is a good number 10 if we played with one and he got a consistent run in that position (which he hasn't here).
He was clearly bought as a winger though, so even if that's true it's still a black mark against Brands.

I think last summer was poor. Not an absolute car crash like some summers, but poor. It didn't look like we'd really improved the squad in the short term, and the way the season has panned out has pretty much confirmed that to be the case. It's ok, these things happen, but he needs to get it right this summer, otherwise we're really moving into the territory where serious questions get asked.

I know im the minority but I really dont consider Delph that bad.

Now he was brought in to be a ultility player in the squad, not to start games, the injuries to Gmblammo and Gomes stopped that sadly.

Lossl as well made loads of sense, Kean also.

Iwobi is the only black mark against Brands for me, if we ignore the fact that he cant play football, he also doesnt fit in anywhere, hes not a winger and hes not a number 10, mainly due to the fact that he cant even do the basics of football, nevermind anything else.

So for 1 reason or another last Summers signings havent really hit the right mark, im fairly sure Brands is aware of this and will be doing all he can to put us back on track this summer.

But it still wont stop the mutants demanding a new squad on 1st July.

Delph‘s been inconsistent, and is unlikely to be a game changer. The plus side is he was cheap, and may serve as backup if we get Gomes, Gblamo in there full time.

Kean, I’m reserving judgement on, see what Carlo wants to do with him in the summer.

I think you might need to brush up on your knowledge of carpet bagging.

I thought that you would have given up with this "carpetbagger" nonsense by now mate.
Why not just wipe the slate clean and admit that you got it wrong about him , Usmanov's involvement , the new ground , net spend etc etc.

Just for clarity Dave, I’m not advocating that Brands hired Ancelotti, of course it was Mosh’s call - he’s ultimately in charge. Same as Brands is responsible for the transfers in and out, good or bad.

But I’ve seen nothing to support your claim that Brands was sidelined in the appointment.
Let's just say he was "consulted".

I think that's nearer the reality. And what does that say for Brands? It tells me he cant (or wont be allowed to) do the job he's here to do.

He's here to make a buck by buying a club at a price a lot lower than what he'll sell it for, and he'll do that regardless of any stadium build.

Im not trying to change your mind. I know that’s impossible. The quote I posted from the athletic seems to indicate that Mosh wants to keep Brands onside, not that he’d sidelined him, which was the specific claim that I asked about.

From the financial times

“They are going to build a new stadium. Why not the USM Arena? It is not obligatory for me to participate myself. I could just sponsor them.” A week after our meeting, Usmanov brokers a deal to bring Carlo Ancelotti, the former Real Madrid manager, to Everton.
THATS WHO REALLY CALLS THE SHOTS

Does this mean no signings can be blamed on him then?
Well he has control over those and he's only partially proven he can do that side of the job (and he's been almost useless selling players). Hopefully that changes and he's sidelined on player transations too.

I honestly dont see a place for Brands if Ancelotti is staying for his full contract. There's no way Ancelotti will do anything other than call the shots over who he specifically wants in...which is a world away from a manager just having a type he tells the DoF he wants and the latter being in command of who the players are we sign.

I can go with that; the puppet or the puppet master.

It defo wasn't the feller sitting in a broom cupboard in FF, that's for sure.
