On the pitch Sunday were 5 of his signings (Richie, Gomes, Bernard, Digne, Sidibe). There was 3 on the bench (Mina, Kean, Iwobi). The glaring criticism of that match has been the players. Not one player performed Sunday. Lets cross Gomes off but injury aside, the lad has put in performances like that pre injury so for me he's going to have to show consistency he's not showed in his Everton career (or even prior) to be a success. The rest of them were woeful and the ones on the bench are simply not deemed good enough to get in this, lets be honest, a very poor Everton side. Now we signed Mina two summers ago - surely he should now be a regular? He cant even get in the team??? And this defence is dreadful. There's no way we signed Iwobi to be a bench player either. Kean looks miles away. Moshiri went on about having a small window to break into the top four. So why are we buying players who aren't ready? And this "they're young, they need to develop" stuff is fine if we are winning. But we are mid table if that. Some young players get better, others do not. It's still a gamble, no matter how you dress it up.
Last year's buys, richie aside, are just not consistent enough to be challenging at the right end of the table. We need players who can perform in big games, turn up when it matters. Ours fold. Not just the players of Walsh and Koeman era, who people like to blame, certainly they have a point, but don't give Brands players different treatment. They're just as bad. Bernard gets off because he played on the right but Sig gets slaughtered when he's never a left mid. Bernard is never a top 6 player in a million years. Digne should be sold, we'd be lucky to get our money back. Sidibe well....it's a good job he was loaned.
Brands era has not been a success thus far. Just go and watch that game on Sunday and remind yourself there was 8 of his players in that first team squad.
