Orny is a legend of the game and as connected as they get. It would be unusual for him to mention tension without there being substance to it - he’s not that type of journo.

It’s a tough situation, Brands had a nightmare squad to play with and some really bad injury luck.

This season will be the one to judge his results on - 3 seasons of transfers and players is enough to know if we’re moving in the right direction.

Some players like Kean, Gbamin, Delph could end up being really important to us whereas at the moment most of the fanbase have them down as failures.

It’s frustrating to see the likes of Lille with Campos turning every transfer into gold. We need that big time this summer, and we need players we’ve bought over the past couple of years to click like Mina, Bernard, Iwobi.

Sounds to me like Moshiri and maybe Usmanov wants instant success whilst Brands is another hipster type who constantly wants 5 year "projects" signing young players.

I've said before I would be shocked if Brands stays on past this year for a number of reasons - however one for me is I think there is deffo tension there.

Remember when Mosh was ringing Brands in the early hours of the morning giving him "transfer" suggestions?

Think Brands would equally be fed up of working under Moshiri.
I think Brands will probably leave at the end of his contract unless there is a big upswing in performances next season. There was an element of bad luck with injuries last season but some of his signings have been questionable.

Maybe he should just put Ancelotti in charge of first team affairs and leave the DoF to oversee the Academy and negotiate the transfers based on a list of targets Ancelotti has final say over.

This is a real worry given how respected Ornstein is when it comes to the world of football journalism.

I think I heard it summarised best on a podcast on which Greg O’Keefe features, the point raised was that when Moshiri bought into Everton, he didn’t buy into the essence of Everton (the people’s club etc etc), but rather Kenwright sold him the vision and framework of a hands-on owner/chairman who could not only be the face of the business, but who could also have a constant hand in the key decision-making, instead of a faceless owner bankrolling the club in the background.

Tosun was said to have been signed off the back of Moshiri admiring one of his UCL performances, Iwobi said to be heavily lobbied for by Farhad as well, and Moshiri himself clearly had sizeable emotional investment in Zaha when he supposedly promised WZ last summer that he’d be playing in the blue of Everton come the start of the 19/20 season.

Not only did Brands inherit a mess of epic proportions from the Koeman/Walsh and then the (albeit brief) Allardyce era, with average players signed for huge fees with the wages to match. But slowly it becomes clearer that he has an immediate superior who seemingly can’t help himself but get involved with the process and deny him full agency to come in and do the job he was employed to do (which is difficult enough).

I’m not saying that all of Brands’ signings have yet come to fruition, but given the hand he’s been dealt it’s disappointing to hear that his job is being made even harder than it needs to be, and that the clarity in the decision-making process and thus the direction of the club appear to have been compromised by an owner who won’t allow his DOF to do his job unaided.

Thing is there is no such thing as instant success anymore due to FFP and that nonsense so if Moshiri wants that he is going to be left wanting. Also why has he got 'trusted advisors' and who are they? i thought the reason of having the DoF was to leave them in charge of football matters. I am starting to (and have done for while) have some real concerns with regards to Farhad Moshiri and that he is another Jesus Gil type who wants to get involved all the time which is just a recipe for disaster, i'm not sure any DoF is ever really going to work properly here with someone like that in charge.

I remember reading that he talks a lot to the super agents.

I think the Gbamin injury was really pivotal.
He was an all action tackling midfielder. He could have made a world of difference last season.
Some of the others may have gelled better if he had been playing. Our style of play would have been different.

I’d expect tension and can’t blame moshiri for getting involved. Let’s face it Digne and richarlison apart brands recruitment has been massively Underwhelming. He’s paid a Kings ransom and has bought utter rubbish like iwobi for 35m

Moshiri's role in transfers needs to be seriously looked at.

That time we bought the number 10's i think Kenwright wanted Rooney, Koeman wanted Klassan, Walsh wanted Vlasic and Moshiri wanted Sigurdsson... while Barkley was pushed out/wanted to leave and was better than them all.

It is clear than Kean was a Brands signing as Silva didnt fancy him at all, in fact 3 managers havent. It is also clear that Doucoure and Arias are Brands targets. Zaha seems a Moshiri thing. God knows who wanted or sanctioned Iwobi... its a mess
