I wonder if he has any ties with Brazilian clubs and could tempt some of the talented youngsters over there to come over

work permits may be an issue but clubs like Madrid and Barcelona seem to get round them quite easily

For some mad reason I was looking at the criteria for work permits last night, think it was because of Onyekuru.

The rules are changing when Brexit goes through.

For the time being the value of the transfer, wages and percentage of the international caps count depending on the nations FIFA rankings (lesser percentage for higher ranked teams).

If not successful an appeal can be logged and the player gains points based on the above. If the fee is large enough then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Easy to say of course but we need to look at what Spurs have done / are doing and replicate that as best we can.

They sign a lot of players in their early twenties before their value soars who have either gone on to become mainstays of the team and/or have allowed them to make a huge profit on re-sale, with plenty more lined up to follow that model.

We will have to take a punt on some signings certainly, but hopefully this is where Brands and an overhaul of scouting and the process as a whole comes in. It is a gamble but doesn't have to be pin the tail on the donkey. We should be positioning ourselves as a club with ambition to the best young talent and making the case that they'll get game time here. The potential upsides in succeeding with that strategy can be huge, one golden egg can go on to be a top player/leader in the team, even if its only for three to four years.

Worse case scenario is they leave and you have enough left over to start that process over again and bring in two or three young players with the proceeds or one big-value established signing.

We are going to have to look at transfers from a strategic viewpoint and thinking two moves ahead in this manner - but I'm sure that is the very reason Brands is here.

there are enough decent players abroad for good money
Juventus have just signed Perin the GK from Genoa to replace Buffon for 10.5mil - more than a decent keeper him!

We were watching him nearly every game and then he tore his ACL for the 2nd time Jan last year.

I'd back this policy. Just hope Silva can coach it and keep us out of trouble and show the fans that something is fundamentally right with this system if we stick with it.

If we get everything right with this approach it'll be a miracle. Get Europe and I'll be doffing my cap.

We shall see what we should see.
Silva will have to be handed a lot more slack than the free-spending Koeman was handed, that's for sure. If he's managing an Everton cutting costs then we cant be expecting a good top half finish next season.

I think he'll do well with whatever he has to work with, but I think a club looking to claw money back in is going to make a bare mid-table position acceptable.

Only a fool doesnt change their view when presented with evidence to suggest something different to what they first assumed.

And I aint a fool.

But I prefer the word prudence, rather than austerity.

Theres money there if needed, but the message is very clear, we cant keep offering vast sums each week to players who wont make a difference. For me its not about money, it never has been, its about the quality of the squad, currently the squad is in a bad place, lets punt all those that wont make a difference and buy players that will, if that means we dont spend any money this window, great, as long as the squad is in a fit state to compete.

Im very truthful David, if the squad isnt good enough, I will say it, I said it last Summer, the squad wasnt good enough and we struggled big time. But im not expecting everything to be sorted in 1 window, its going to take time to right the wrongs, to build a squad, but im expecting some sort of plan, not the mayhem that we witnessed last summer for sure.

I expect LOTS of outgoings, sales and loans, before we start seeing some Ins, its very prudent. We currently have 38 players in our first team squad, its not workable.
Prudent/austere...same impact.

I take issue with you on the "money is there if needed" point. It was only there in the last two seasons because the club had that coming in via players sales that wont ever be repeated and the massive hike in tv cash.

This new turn will be sold as the building of a leaner, fit for purpose football club. If we get the results then they'll be able to continue to sell it as such. If we dont get results there's gonna be murder.

How long are you giving the new order Dave ?

I think all that you have said is correct there mate with regards to how things will play out. Important though not to knock it just yet because IF the 4 signings they bring in are quality purchases who offer us the balance/blend/chemistry that was massiviely lacking the last couple of years during recruitment, then we will be in good hands.

I think they will take a look at Feeney ( not sure where he is up to recovery wise after an op end of season ), Gibson ( had a great season for the u23's ), Robinson, Dowell, Baningeme for stepping up/integrated into the squad and that would be alongside the likes of Kenny, Davies, DCL and sounds like Lookman will be in and around the first team. Hopefully Vlasic can step up after a tough season for him.

Brands and Silva have got a job on their hands cleaning up the mess that Koeman and Walsh left behind so lets give them.the time and suppport and patience that will probably be needed at this moment in time.
I'd give it a lot of time to bed in, tbh. I'd be happy seeing us going for a home grown approach as long as the quality is there. I dont think that sort of patience will be the majority view though. The era of patience and being happy with midtable and even 7th-9th is over for most. It's like a quaint view from the past when the Moyes/Kenwright tandem bowled along without anyone caring that much that we were also rans as long as we had some PL credibility. Our mate Moshiri has seen that attitude off the premises in no uncertain terms with his and his helpers BS claims of smashing through glass ceilings. So, if this does end in tears as a strategy then he'll be the architect of his own demise via any backlash that comes his way. Which is ironic.

If he goes for cheap buys that's fine but he needs 1 decent midfielder/leader that can take the game by the scruff of the neck.
Also in a 4-4-3 the work rate of the players is going to have to increase by at least another 20%, a
It will be interesting to see how the players respond to his tactics

That’s what managers do. Marco Silva currently has a whole team of players picked by someone else. Most managers will play a team that has been bought under 5 or 6 different managers. Ours were bought by 4.
Managers buy plenty of duff players anyway so not sure that really holds up either.
Obviously managers and DoF’s would have contact and a discussion about who is bought but the manager should have enough to be able to make the players work
I think the way it will work is Silva will tell Marcel he wants a player for a certain position with certain attributes.
Marcel will then give Silva a list of options and they will go through them and decide on a player
If Silva wants a player not on the list then he will have to put up a bloody good argument as to why we should sign him
