Same diffference with managers: the demotion by you and others of the role of a manager simply wont do. Managers are the glue that hold the organisation together, they are the determinators of how everything else works at the club. They are the face to the world.

When Sky or BT or ESPN broadcast a series of programmes called "Best Ever Directors of Football" please let me know about it.

Jesus, Dave, I'm not demoting the manager's role. I'm elevating that of the DoF in the modern football world.

I accept your point about managers and of course they are the most important and senior figure at the club. However since the introduction of agents into the game, the role of a DOF has become more necessary, particularly when dealing with agents and trying to get deals over the line. Can you imagine the likes of Brian Clough trying to deal with the likes of Raiola today. Even the most powerful and successful manager of all time (Ferguson) had very little time for Raiola and the role of agents in the game. The Bosman role ruined football, gave too much power to the players and greatly accelerated the role of agents.
 
As a very infrequent poster, I've felt moved to post my guff on this in respect of his role. I enjoyed his musings on this transfer window. DAVEK et al are right to hope he does his job out of the limelight. Nothing I've seen would suggest that won't happen. Appears competent and hopefully has done a great job in recruitment. I've seen a couple of interviews since his arrival and that's it. I feel positive but fail to see how any poster could arrive at a definitive opinion yet. Let the man do his job.

Putting himself out there all those times? Let me count them? Three? Once when he started, two when Silva started, three yesterday? No matter how many times yesterday it was reported it was the same stuff. You are madly overplaying this

What bs, he said he was after mina even before the world cup.
His performances in russia basically doubled his transfer fee and brands paid it.

What bs about not paying over the odds for him.

But the game calls for an expert on tactics and strategy, and the 'franchise' rises or falls on the ability of the Head Coach to make those pay.
