Nope. First year purchases for Martinez were largely inspired (Lukaku/Barry/Deulofeu), money well spent (McCarthy) + Kone and Alcarez (one of whom was a free).

Pushing the boat out here, Dave. Rom and Barry were inspired, Geri was hit and miss and would be blowing after 20 mins. McCarthy has played 17 games in 3 seasons, not money well spent. Kone and Alcaraz gave me eye AIDS.

Jury is still out on Mina, he looked extremely impressive in a few games, looked way off the pace in others. Lets see what next season brings for him.

Seriously injury prone, yes a good player that I like but your talking about wages that Mina is on, McCarthy has had more than his share in wages and been on the treatment table for how long. 17 appearances in the last 3 years for us, 7 as a substitute.

Sorry mate your wrong on all fronts. 1) we loaned lukaku first then paid 28M for him, as we’ve noted was a large amount then, Barry yes good, Geri eventually didn’t work out, and the Wigan lot your on a wind up with. Mina jury is still out it’s a debate to have at the end of next season, let’s say he has a terrible season or just doesn’t play much I’d be much more confident we could recoup all of the 27M we paid out for him, could that be said of anyone Martinez signed apart from Lukaku?

We had small net spends under both Moyes and Martinez. Leaving aside the Koeman fiasco which is a complete anomaly, we've seen about a £50M net spend so far with Brands. He's been here 12 months. As I see it, he's bought some good players; he's wasted some cash. On the sales side he's gone for a policy of loans to buy with very mixed results.


I say again: I am not arguing he's been poor. I am arguing that any celebration of his time here is an embarrassingly small time and OTT reaction.

Martinez signed the best player we've had since the 1980s. The most profitable one.

I dont think there's any mileage in denigrating Martinez's overall signing policy.
