2019/20 Marcel Brands

30 for a goalkeeper is about 25 for any other position.

Baines was an obvious low cost player to retain.

Gomes? A player of his experience and quality for £22m. Not bad for a guaranteed good addition.

Delph at £8.5m is pennies especially when we sell Schneiderlin.

We have a very young team and could do much worse than have Delph around.

With Jags and Stek on their way out, we’ve actually lowered our average age. Great job Marcel.
Add Williams to the oldies out as well

A CB and a RW in and Besic, McCarthy, Mirralas and Bolasie out. Lookman out for £25mil+
That is the minimum requirement for this window for me, if Brands can pull that off then we are a long way to having our dysfunctional squad sorted out. I would sacrifice a striker this window and persist with DCL / Richy for another transition year which would allow us to invest heavily in that position next summer.
Still a lot of work to be done but it seems to be following a similar pattern to last year with business steadily being concluded, let's just hope that we don't go down to deadline day again for the CB / RW.

Lossl 30
Baines 34
Gomez 25
Delph 29

...average age of the squad being raised when we should be headed in the opposite direction.

I expect the next few in to be younger players otherwise the Brands pronouncements from the spring look meaningless.

agree, look at the youngsters we've sold too, robinson should have been bacup to digne this season, but he's 21 and baines is 34 and brands is just being ageist.

May have to do just that, do not want the club any so called striker who turns out to be U/S in front of goal had enough of them in the last few windows.

Told we will target young hungry players for bigger fees but lower wages.

Fabian Delph.

He’s also keeping tabs on Mario Mandzukic.

Think either our DOF is also a complete phoney or his budget is that low he’s getting short terms stop gaps but nothing about Mario Mandzukic makes sense. Nothing at all.

Robinson has been sold to a lower half championship club. If he was good enough other premier league clubs would have been in for him. I understand what you are saying, but obviously brands/silva don’t rate Robinson.

What Brands and Silva are in the business of doing is fixing the vandalism that Koeman and then Allardyce inflicted on the club in a relatively short period. If you look at the money spent during that time you'd have expected us to finish top six. We didn't of course and it was soon very clear we'd bought expensive duds.

I'm concerned there will be no proper striker again this season.

We are not a bottomless barrel as some seem to understandably think. Football is all about fantasy and escapism but unless you are owned by a sheikh the reality can be very different.

If Brands and Silva stay I expect to see progression on the field when the likes of Sandro, Schneiderlin, Walcott, Besic, Mirallas, Tosun etc are all off the books.

This will take a few seasons. In the mean time I suspect it will be, 'best of the rest!'

Let's have this right:

Brands had one outstanding job above all in this transfer window: to get a cracking striker in. There's more to do than that, of course. But that was - and is - the primary job.

He must be judged on what happens now in that respect.

I know that the transfer window starts when the financially doped clubs start the ball rolling, so there's still time in the three weeks left. He better use those weeks to find that striker though.
