I said last summer bringing Brands in was key to any future success - he had a stuttering start to this window but its not how you start the race but how you finish and at present he's charging in 2nd looking to pip 1st to the winning spot (RW, CB before the deadline).

It'll be interesting to see how Silva handles the squad this summer - I said last season Silva was the final relic of the Moshiri decision making period and I wouldn't be shocked if Brands gets rid if we dont achieve this season as no doubt he'll want someone in capable of bringing success on the pitch otherwise his own reputation is damaged in the process.
I think you’ll find that Moshiri was in regular contact with Brands before he attempted to appoint Silva.
I firmly believe that Silva was a Brands recommendation as I doubt he would have accepted the job if he hadn’t approved the appointment.

Still blown away buy that fee. Cheaper than Lukaku was 5 yrs ago.

Not quite comparable. Lukaku didn't have 1 year left on his contract. He was also proven in the Premier League by that point, something Kean is not. That transfer today, with the rate of inflation, would be closer to £55-60m.

If Kean and Gbamin mature into excellent players and help us to kick on then Brands will be getting all the plaudits for bringing them here.

Until then, it's probably best to let their performances do the talking.

Brands is certainly proving an astute signing.
Regardless of short term ups and downs, I am more hopeful of improvement in our long term fortunes with Brands responsible for all football decisions at our club.
When he can see the first team running well , I anticipate him turning his attention to our academy and hopefully giving it a root and branch overhaul.

Not sure Silva was a Brands recommendation. But I'm 100% certain that he new that Silva was our number 1 choice to replace Allardyce before he agreed to become our DoF, so in that regard must have approved of his appointment.

Despite Silva's occasional press conference comments pushing the board as regards new signings, I do firmly believe Silva and Brands work well together as a team on the transfer front. Whilst Marcel does all the negotiations, Marco has his say on things and I'm confident that Brands get's his approval before bringing any player in. There's also no doubt that Brands will involve Silva in some of the negotiations getting him to talk to players if he thinks it will help close the deal. We know this certainly happened with the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Gomes last season because each of the players said so. Not sure how much input he's had this season so far.

Zouma + Zaha + Doucoure seem to be the targets...

I wonder how much we will end up spending...

If that did happen we would be in the position where no player is guaranteed first choice (Kean aside). That can only result in better footie as everyone needs to play at their peak.

Not sure tbh mate, he may have given his blessings but Moshiri was after him long before Brands came on board.

When you look at the type of signings Brands makes - he isnt afraid to go for big names / negotiate with big clubs and agents which makes me think if Silva isn't here in 2-3 seasons time he would go all out for a top manager capable of achieving success/trophies which also boosts Brands reputation.

Look at Monchi - his reputation at Sevilla was not just down to his dealings but also them winning trophies and qualifying for Europe / CL which is down to the manager's ability in coaching the players he signed well enough.

I agree there is no point going over the top at this stage because, apart from Gomes, none of our signings have kicked a ball for us in anger. However, even though we may not be able to give Brands full credit for the players he has brought in yet, we can still admire his negotiating skills. All the talk in the papers relating to the Gomes, Kean and Gbamin signings where about the two sides being miles apart on the fees. But when the signings have been confirmed, in each case, the deal was done at the lower end of what was being touted in the papers.

And let's be honest here, even though the players still have to prove themselves in an Everton shirt, the vast majority of fans are very happy with the quality of signings we have made so far. Gone are the days of Kone, McGeady and Bolasie seemingly.
