I would rather focus on what we have personally.

I'm very happy with what we have brought in mate. Gutted about Zaha because he'd pushed for it and would have massively improved us, but in terms of our additions I think they're all middling to very good, with the middling signings having the potential to be more than decent too.

We've lost our best player and will have to adapt. That's on Silva though, but will take time.

However, I can't help but feel going into a season with three senior CBs (one of whom isn't ready imo to be 3rd choice at this level) is reckless. I hope I'm proved wrong. But it was abundantly clear all summer that we needed a player there, and one of quality. I get we wanted to wait out for Zouma, but you need to have other options. We needed to be proactive. Instead, a late, out of the blue move from Luiz has left us with our pants down. That's not good enough.

So ultimately it ends up being nearly as much about the business we didn't get done.

In Kean and Iwobi, have we brought in enough goals to compensate if we have injuries at the other end, or for however long it takes to switch systems now Gana has gone?

When your manager says signing a centerback is the number 1 priority. When your starting centerback is facing a ban for a gambling incident. When the same starting centerback struggled mightily at times and is prone to injury. Then yes, not signing another centerback, is a failure.

To me at least
Brands has done some brilliant business over the last two summer windows regarding the incomings and out goings but no cb in
this window is a mistake
Of course both he and the managers first choice was zouma but it seemed that was unlikely very early on in the window and surely alternative's had been put in place for that eventuality.
Maybe a better picture of the going ons will come out with some of the journalists as to targets missed but to left scrambling for players like smalling and rojo was amateurish at best

Vastly improved the squad and still made a profit.

What a man.

Gonna be egg on lots of faces once the footy starts.
It's polishing a turd to say this was a window worth having.

Brands, in his own words by the way, stated that he started LAST SEPTEMBER to put this window together. He then stated in April all targets were identified.

To end up, IMO, weakened at the end of the summer having a net spend of about £40M is disgraceful.

I think we should see how it goes tbh...

Identifying your targets and being able to snatch them away from the club are two entirely separate issues. Juve have an abundance of attackers and needed to sell to make a run at UCL. Brands took advantage. Mainz needed money. Brands took advantage. Multiple spots covered by Delph. V good cover for Coleman. Gomes secured early.

A team comes out with a ridiculous price point on your Sept identified player, then you wait. You've negotiated before yeah? Sometimes you have to walk away or wait.

Weakened my anus.

Of course. But you're not saying we shouldn't assess what we have right now are you? It is legitimate to look at what we have and what we lost and come to a conclusion that it's a poor window given what was promised and what was spent.

Naaa. All down to Silva to get that squad performing now Dave - the players are there, so he needs to get a tune out of them.
