The centre back issue has grated on me a little, but big picture and we've had a solid window if all of our new players come in and do well. There's nothing to suggest that they won't.

I'm not totally sold on Iwobi, (in fact I think I wrote on here 2 years ago that he's the worst player I'd ever seen), but he did improve last season and the stats suggests he's quite creative so hopefully he adds something extra.

If Sidibe, Iwobi, Kean and Gbamin all become fixtures in our team next season, we are going to be one really powerful outfit next season. We'll have size, strength and athleticism all over the pitch. I think that was our overall strategy this summer.

We have had a few predictions of possible flirtation with relegation and a mediocre season at best from someone else . Everyone is entitled to say what they believe even though these sort of extreme views are rather stupid. It is sad really. Assuming they are Everton fans they are prime candidates for the Booing section, assuming of course that they go to the games.

`Holgate will likely get better' - on what basis, he was average in the championship.
`Mina dominated in the World Cup' - bizarre statement. He scored a couple of goals from corners.
`Dominic Calvert Lewin will start the season, the lad who dominated some of the leagues leading defences at the back end of the season' - good grief, he has never shown anything to suggest he will ever be a regular top 8 prem striker with decent strike rate.
`We can't sign players who are good enough for the top 6 currently, they won't come' - just utter nonsense. Weve bought Awobi/Richarlison/Kean - we just need a lot more like them.

We got crazy lucky to have a great manager at the time in the 80's and bought excellent players who were all leaders. That = success.
But the culture of the club and supporters helped and allowed that to happen. That led to a culture within that
dressing room similar to United under Ferguson and for so many times at the kopites.
We need that culture back. Accepting responsibility, expecting success.
Just look at Silva in the press conference today. If I was one of his players I would be laughing.
He seems resigned to his fate, talking up players that have left more than the ones here.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to correct some of the above as it's simply untrue. Holgate was considered one of the leading defenders in the championship last season. He is 21 and it's logical he gets better, especially off the back of a positive loan.

I don't know what games you were watching last season if thats your take on Calvert Lewin. I watched him against two sides who got to the Europa League Final, the 3rd, 5th and 6th best sides in the league and he dominated each of them. In fact I would not have swapped their strikers for him on any of those days. One of those strikers has just been sold for 70+ million. Go back and watch the game against United, and objectively view which striker you would rather have out of Lukaku of DCL. So I'm astounded your view is he isn't a top 8 striker on the back of that. It's a baffling conclusion.

Kean is a wonderful signing, but he is 19. As you have said there is an element of risk to it. Iwobi is a fringe player and Richarlinson we got because our manager was close to him and he ended the season badly. Yes we need more signings like them, but at the time of signing them nobody in the top 6 wanted them.

In the 80's we matched a good young squad with a manager who could improve players. We are trying to do that now. Any notion of fan culture that made an impact (I suspect this is overplayed) would not have been to disingenuously put out the sort of statements you have that don't stand up to any scrutiny. That culture is is not going to help any business or football club grow. An honest assessment, of positives and negatives is what is required.

Jimmy its like speaking to 5 year olds.

They just are incapable of analysing past results, perfomances and the likely future ones.
They don't reason, debate, rationalise.

'Wait and see', `We tried to get a centre half but wasnt to be', `Who knows', `Holgate will improve', `Mina will be fine', `Wait and see if anyone gets injured', `Kean WILL improve us'. `Gbamin replaces Gueye so 9/10'.

Its so childish. No proper analysis. No detailed description or understanding why we are left in a ridiculously perilous state in central defence despite mammoth investment in wages/players the last few years.

Why are attacking hopes are pinned on a 19 year old. NINETEEN.

It seems the bulk of fans are fine with 8th place each year and an early exit in the cups.

I witnessed our greatest years in the 80's. The culture of the place was so different, even in 80/81/82 when we were gash.

There was expectation that every player was capable of competing at the highest level of the division. Mediocraty was not acceptable. That was why we had such a rich history of success.

That culture has dissapated.

I am lucky to have had some great times, I would love the young evertonians starved of success to witness something similar but I am just not seeing anything that makes that likely other than an owner (clueless about footballing matters) giving us a chance by pumping fortunes in.

That last paragraph is Modern Football. It has all changed so no real point harping on about the past. I have seen us since the 66 cup final but football has changed since Sky and it is the money and the richest clubs that will prosper. We now have a rich owner but still poor compared to those above us. We really have to be lucky and hope we can build a good young team over time and not just 1 or 2 seasons. Get into that top 6 and importantly maintain it then we are in the mix with a chance of staying there with good management. We will then have the same access to the same top players. Football compared to the past is chalk and cheese.

Re Holgate - “he was average in the championship”.
What was you actually expecting of him? To go to WBA and turn into Cafu?
He played right back and was decent for a team that got to the play offs.
How many West Brom games did you actually sit through to form this opinion? Or are you going off sound bites off the internet?

Séamus Coleman played for Blackpool in the same league at the same age.

This is one of those situations where you are just looking for a negative to have a go at either the player or the club.

Edit: Yerry Mina scored 3 and equalled the most goals scored by a defender at a World Cup. He certainly didn’t dominate anything but he’s done nothing so far to show us he isn’t up to the job of being a very good player for us.

Not sure why you are attacking that guys comments. He was spot on in my opinion. This team has more potential for relegation than top 4 and brands should be culpable. It wouldn't be fair for anyone to get on silvas back this season as this team Is utter crap compared to the level of where we are supposed to be. I keep hearing new players told to say they have joined a big club with great history. Big club my arse.

The state of that window Is horrendous considering what it could have been. Absolute joke and brands has to take the blame for what will be a pathetically mediocre season

Relegation? Just because we never got Zaha your throwing your toys out the pram like a little baby.

Liked much of your post apart from the last sentence. It all depends on what you regard as the first 11. Now who are the first 11? Bearing in mind the signings made for me the squad has improved and given Silva more options so to me the"first 11" has improved. If one talks of the first 11 it has to be realised who is sitting on the bench waiting to come on.
Im talking more accross the board.

When our bacjk up midfielders included besic / mcCarthy and schneiderlin for example then we have improved them by signing the german lad, and delph. Granted only one as gomes was here already and the other replaced Gueye but comsidering how many games the ones mentioned played last season combined, you can see what i mean. So out of the two choice we have 3 options, with davies and schniederlin as back up if and when we need them. A doucore may have been nice but then sign too many first teamers at the same time and you cant play them all at once. Just slowly improve the squad and go like that.

Our first 11 can be adaptable now which is the first time we could say that since the 80s really, moyes had a first 11 and noone after that had a squad to rotate. We can now rotate in a lot of positions, which is always a good thing to have

Interesting article just gone up on our home page.

Yeah read it.

It’s all ifs and buts.

Mina might go on to be a massive hit, guess we will have to see.

Who knows? There have may of possibly been indications Zouma would be coming and Lampard changed his mind, we will never know.

I think you need to get back to cloud cuckoo land mate
