You'd think, wouldn't you, that having a continental DoF we'd be seeing a lot of young up and coming low cost players coming through Goodison on a conveyor belt?

I really want to be generous and patient with him, but I thought that was absolutely the model we were going to follow, as it helped us to deal with FFP , and compete with clubs which have more money. A healthy turnover of players bought low sold high until we make it to become a regular CL club in 5-10 years, when we might be able to compete financially.

I also thought he was overhauling medical, phsyio, coaching, scouting...
I really don't know what he's doing.

It's embarassing. We're one stop away from Ginola-Gascoigne-Eto'o type signings now (all different I know but you get it)

Even though Townsend is clearly a Benitez suggestion, any DoF who had just a sliver of faith in his own ability to find solutions in the market would be shooting that idea to pieces the moment it was uttered.

I imagine that Benitez has proposed Townsend and Brands has identified Gray as bargain basement options to cover the wide positions, and for some reason instead of settling on one, we have decided to sign both.

I think the same thing happened last summer on a much larger scale when Brands wanted Doucoure and had done his due diligence for more than a year but couldn't bring himself to say no when Carlo asked for Allan, despite the two playing the same position. Such dreadful planning has left us needing more recruits in centre midfield, four summer windows into Brands' tenure and no less than 100 million spent on Gomes, Delph, Gbamin, Doucoure and Allan. You get the feeling that exactly the same is happening out wide as we have now brought in Richarlison, Bernard, Iwobi, James, Townsend and Gray under Brands and we still need more quality there.

And to think if we'd have kept Vlasic and Lookman we'd probably be no worse off.
