If we do badly this season, Benitez is obviously going to take the fall but it shouldn't be lost on anyone that Brands has completely failed if we don't turn the direction of the club around in his fourth year in charge of our football structure.

He is in last chance saloon now. Failure to make Europe this season and he should be frog marched out of the club.

Digne,Godfrey,Doucoure and Richarlison ,Nkonkou Mina, Branthwaite have all been signed while Brands has been here.

I won't even bother giving him any credit for Allan or JR

Not at all.

When we had a world class manager he signed players from Real Madrid, Napoli, now we have a League One manager, we sign players from League One clubs.

Even though Townsend is clearly a Benitez suggestion, any DoF who had just a sliver of faith in his own ability to find solutions in the market would be shooting that idea to pieces the moment it was uttered.

I imagine that Benitez has proposed Townsend and Brands has identified Gray as bargain basement options to cover the wide positions, and for some reason instead of settling on one, we have decided to sign both.

I think the same thing happened last summer on a much larger scale when Brands wanted Doucoure and had done his due diligence for more than a year but couldn't bring himself to say no when Carlo asked for Allan, despite the two playing the same position. Such dreadful planning has left us needing more recruits in centre midfield, four summer windows into Brands' tenure and no less than 100 million spent on Gomes, Delph, Gbamin, Doucoure and Allan. You get the feeling that exactly the same is happening out wide as we have now brought in Richarlison, Bernard, Iwobi, James, Townsend and Gray under Brands and we still need more quality there.

And to think if we'd have kept Vlasic and Lookman we'd probably be no worse off.

I think all 3 are Benitez driven...

Richarlison was a Silva signing. He brought him to the country.

Mina and Doucoure? Wow. How did Brands unearth those two? What an eye for spotting undeveloped talent.

Branthwaite and Nkonkou represent potential. They might do well, might not. Hardly established like are they?

Godfrey and Digne I'll give you....great work for 3 years spending.
