Bernard was apparently earning £100k+ per week. His lack of game time and ineffective performances were hardly likely to attract many suitors and nobody prepared to pay a double figure transfer fee as he enters the last year of his contract.
Given his salary, the aim was to get him off the books. Can’t see why posters think we would get big bucks for him.
He has to go down as a poor signing from Brands. He’s accountable for bringing in players who fail to make an impact & sadly there are a few of them.

The inability to sell the deadwoods with actual money is pretty alarming.
….if he bought them but can’t shift them then that’s a sign of failure.
If you were DoF of another club would you buy our deadwood? Would you look at your squad and think ‘yeh could do with some of Everton’s crap players here’.

That’s why I do not see any problem of getting freebies and low fee players as squad players. At least not spending £25m on Bolasie or Walcott etc.
Maybe there are better chance to get rid of the like in Bernard and Kenny earlier. Even Tosun, but looks like most of these lot will run down the contracts and leave for nothing.
So you agree no sane DoF should buy our crap players but then complain we aren't able to sell our crap players?

There were. Had sold Vlasic, Lookman, Dowell and Henry etc. Just not enough though.
And what separates those guys from your Bernard's, Delph's, Sigurdsson's etc?

Certainly becoming a pattern of him signing players and not quickly moving them on if they arent good enough.
…yep, I think a challenge to his overall record is justified.
For me, it’s as much about who he hasn’t brought in. He’s into his 2nd contract and is only now adding conventional wingers to the squad which is lacking in speed & athleticism in key areas.
If there’s an inbalance and gaps in the squad then Brands is accountable.
