Embarrassed? It's taken 3 years to partially undo the mess that was left behind in the first place. We won't start to see the results of his tenure for another 3 years minimum, such was the state the previous idiots left us in.

His priority on arriving will have been to trim the rather large and ridiculous wage bill full of average players on superstar deals, as a result of which, we have been unable to find any takers even at a knockdown price. Which means we have had to wait most of them out.

Rooney
Martina
Williams
Stekelenburg
Klaassen
Onyekuro
Lookman
Mccarthy
Schneiderlin
Jagielka
Baines
Garbutt
Niasse
Sandro
Walcott
Bolasie
Besic
Pennington
Connolly
Baningime

That's 20 players and over £1m per week in wages alone that we have had to clear out, and thats not even including Sigurdsson and Tosun, which would add almost another £200k per week on top (I didn't include Vlasic or Gueye as they at least had some value).

On top of that, we have still had to maintain a squad to stay competetive, so while getting rid is a priority, it's not exactly a closing down sale, everything must go. We can't be left with no players.

So clearly there would have to be some players coming in. Most of these have been players with a much younger profile, on much more reasonable wages yet with much higher market value, obviously with the odd exception (Delph, Bernard).

And all of this with the turmoil of changing manager 3 times and having to support them with their own ideas and favoured lieutenants.

Its so easy to criticise without taking a fair and balanced look at the actual situation, the nuances of the market and the role, the fact that just because we are selling or want to buy that the other team doesn't have to just give us what we want for the exact deal we offer. If that was the case, it would be an incredibly simple job, and he really would have failed.

I think people need to apply some critical thinking and not just have a hissy fit because we haven't gone out breaking the rules to spend hundreds of millions and won the league in the 3 years he's been here, like it was doable in the 30 years before he arrived.
I’ve applied some critical thinking and… concluded I’d like you to carry out my annual appraisal at work.

We were literally coming off a game with no striker when King was signed. Ancelotti somehow ground that one out, and knew he couldn't do that again.

So Ancelotti told Brands to get a striker. Brands said we couldn't afford one. Ancelotti told him that we needed at least a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency one. Brands signed King. Ancelotti then packed his bags after that incident and the robbery.

I don't have to have been there to infer that's most likely how those things went down.
I'm guessing Ancelotti was more drawn to Real Madrid, rather than leaving due to the atrocity of signing Josh King

My point is that he probably was planning to leave after those two things happened. Madrid made that a lock, because it's the Madrid job. Everyone knows what they're in for. Everyone seems to take it anyway, if it's put onto the table.

You have zero evidence to support any of this.

With all due respect, I honestly think you're mad if you think Josh King had even the slightest contribution to him leaving.

100% the lure of Madrid.

I would suggest keeping in mind that part of the lure of Madrid is the relative disparity in resources between the two clubs.

I also suspect that Ancelotti takes the safety of his family pretty seriously, from things he's said.

I have plenty. Timing, player selection, price, context, club's emphasis on family, Ancelotti's emphasis on family, principals of the event in February.

I observe these things and infer from the data.

No, you sit on the outside looking in then fabricate some wild story that infers Ancelotti wanted to quit Everton because we signed Josh King on a 6 month loan.

We are equally on the outside looking in.

What makes you think that my explanation doesn't hold water, and yours does? You are in a glass house throwing stones.

If you want relative weighting, I think that the robbery and its circumstances had a lot more to do with it. The King situation is just emblematic of why Madrid is a "better" job despite the media circus and internal drama the manager has to put up with.

Because I’m not on the outside looking in proclaiming what may or may not have happened. All I know is Real Madrid called and he left - that’s all we need to know.

Christ you’re annoying.

Well, if we're discussing whether or not the director of football is doing a good job or not, the club's inability to retain a manager with Ancelotti's CV is germane to that discussion.

Ancelotti's relative perceptions of the club's ability to deliver on promises/sporting needs and any safety concerns are certainly germane to why he might have left. Inferring why he might have left could tell us something about why we seem to have difficulty attracting the players we want to attract, and have in the past at times ended up with mercenaries on high wages relative to their skill level.

Those background conditions are essential to appraising the performance of Brands.

Saying you think he maybe left because we signed Josh King is whacky but an opinion.

Saying he did leave because of Josh King with zero evidence to support it is just idiotic.

I already cited my evidence. You're free to disbelieve that it is evidence. I don't control that, or your judgment of idiocy.

I will point out that you brought that judgment to the table. I'm treating you like you're not an idiot, because I'm continuing to respond. If I thought you were an idiot spouting idiocy, I wouldn't waste my time responding to you.

Events don't always affect the conclusion though.

All we know if Real Madrid came calling and he ditched us but which Everton manager in our history would have turned down the Real Madrid job? If he'd taken a sideways or backwards step then sure, you could put more weight into apparent clashes with a Director of Football or the break in, but he left for one of the biggest - and arguably easiest - jobs in world football. If what what we have been told about his lack of coaching with us perhaps this job was just too difficult for him in the end.
