Good riddance to this total fraud. I can't believe what I've been reading on these pages since the news started to filter through that he was leaving that many fans view this as bad news.
For the supposed sole intellectual capital for the industry of football in our boardroom, in what way has he advanced the direction of our football club? Why has it fallen upon Benitez, three and a half years since Brands walked through the door, to make some changes to the absolutely pitiful medical department? Why are we will still giving giving coaching jobs to former players in the youth teams like they're free sweets? Make all the excuses you want for his miserable transfer record, he has failed against every single line of his job description.
As for that Echo article, despite it clearly being penned by Brands himself, if any of the allegations against Moshiri are true then its clear what we needed from our Director of Football is some resilience, and failing that, somebody to stand by their own principles and walk away with their reputation and dignity intact. Brands is guilty simply by association if nothing else, and the fact he signed a second contract having experienced every brain fart Moshiri is capable of just condemns him further.
Funny how the issue of Moshiri meddling was never considered a problem during the Steve Walsh days, or has been offered as an excuse for or by Walsh since. Do people really believe that Walsh, having never worked as a DoF or club exec before, was given complete autonomy in the transfer market and Marcel Brands who arrived with a storied reputation was immediately tied to a radiator and bypassed at every opportunity? This is despite the fact Brands was appointed to the board, Walsh was not. Brands was rewarded for his failure with a new contract whilst Walsh was given a one way ticket to football abyss.
The excuses just don't wash. Yes we have an absolute clown for an owner but one of the very first things Moshiri did when he arrived was establish the DoF position, and the very first candidate that we identified was Marcel Brands who turned us down. The role was effectively made for him and a way for Moshiri to delegate power to a person with proper intellectual capital.
We need to make serious changes to our football structure and we have an opportunity to do that now that one of the BIGGEST problems of our club is gone. We need Barrett-Baxendale to follow and to properly empower a CEO-Manager dream team. Obviously this doesn't include Benitez.
