We came close to bringing a RB but holding clubs rejected our approach.

Tell you what, email Brands and tell him to ask every club here and abroad have you got an RB you would like to sell. Or would you like him to put an advert in the Echo?
I would like him to sign a competent Right back
Brands is supposed to be a highly respected DOF in the footballing world. If he is, he should of agents and sources giving him inside information on who isn’t happy or is available

There is no excuse him not getting a replacement in for Coleman, and there is no defending his failings in the Right back area.

But who was available?

Dave, you out there. Take Tosun as an example, if the players do not want to go how can Brands make them? Add to that we need a buying club to come in for them. When Brands has got rid of some as of late nothing but moaning about no large amounts of cash fro them.

You really ought to try a different hobby horse.
He has no plan. He is leaden-footed when we need someone mapping out a future in terms of players moving on and players coming in. He just doesn't have the industry savvy or contacts to do well at either of those aspects of the DoF job.

It;s been a confirmation of the Peter Principle here at Everton for Brands: he was promoted way above his abilities. I think everyone knows it. Even a hack like McNulty broke ranks this week to lay the mis-governance of the club at Brands's door.

The word is out about Brands now way beyond the world of football forums.

Please Dave, at least give me a challenge.

What is the point of a manger who cannot direct the DoF to focus on that? Add to that we have great difficulties over finanace and FFP. But that has been relieved now that James has left.

He's been here nealy 4 years. I'd genuinely like to know what stand out work he's done.
I'll swerve alex iwobi. Possibly the worst bit of business this club has ever done.

You do not know full stop. Yiu are just guessing or speculating, you have no hard facts.

Add to which you completely ignored my response to you about moving players.

You are ignoring who the managers were and what input they may have had.

Just like DaveK guessing and speculating, no hard facts.

So basically you dont know. You cant point any direction to say here's where he really earns his money.
Isnt the whole point of a dof to recruit and then the manager gets on with it?
If the Everton managers had the input then whats his job? To stand there with his tan and whiten teeth for a photoshoot.
If a manager fails or succeeds on the pitch its there for all to see.
I cant tell you about this dof coz i dunno wtf he does. He certainly doesnt make sure the squad is balanced going into the season.
Just own up. You dont know either.

I think at least part of the issue is the lack of performance by the team on the field meaning we can’t get rid of some of our bit part players easily. A newly promoted team with money to spend would rather spend that on a reserve from a top side as it’s a perceived safer bet than from a failing outfit like us - the RS for example seem to do well flogging their unwanted players.

under Moyes I’m sure we got rid of players who we didn’t want for the above reasons for decent money - Johnson, Naismith, Rodwell etc.

For once I agree Kevin - I mean people blame the manager over Tuesdays result but you had a former Portuguese International in Gomes and England under 21 international in Davies in midfield against QPR - both should be dictating the play yet both look like Championship fodder.

There are so many players in that squad who we'll be stuck with until they leave on a free / small fee because they dont have any hunger in them.

Gomes
Davies
Holgate
Kenny
Iwobi

I wouldn't touch any of them with a bargepole. Then you have crocks like Delph, Toshun & Gbamin.

The squads a mess and will take another 12-24 months to fully fix.

Partially agree but I’m more thinking about the outright rubbish that the likes of the RS are able to shift (Ibe, Shelvey) and rubbish that we were able to shift like Rodwell etc.
