Does the DoF at other clubs let managers walk through the door and demand specific players they want?
When you allow managers certain players and they're in and out in 18 months (like they are here) then this is the mess of a squad you're left with.

Again though, with the way this absolute circus of a club is run, can we confidently say they were his choice of signings? Not convinced. But I think the fact that the doubt is even present is alarming enough over the job he's done.

Issue is Brands is basically a glorified scout and was unable to come up with any right-back targets over than Dumfries (who loads knew anyway even before the Euros), a 19-year-old back-up from Rangers with 20 senior games to his name, and a midfielder who can play right-back.

Have a horrible feeling Benitez wont be interested in any of that, he'll be looking to bring that donkey Longstaff in from Newcastle; because, of course, that'll be what takes us to the next level surely...

Havent followed Dumfries tbh since he went to Inter but checking stats he's played in 8/9 league games and 3/3 CL games with 2 assists so far.
Has he actually been poor for them?

It's a mess that needs sorting quickly - like previously stated by others what's the point in having a D.O.F who performs none of the functions of the role.

For all of Brands faults I do look at players that he was rumoured to be after in the Summer - Dias and Nunes in particular who are both having storming seasons at their respective clubs and would have been been a huge difference for us this year.

I just want us to have a clear transfer plan tbh - if it doesn't work then it doesn't work - but this ridiculous way of operating is going to be the end of us.

But instead we have the egotistical club owner picking the manager, and the manager in turn dictating the transfer policy. Why bother appointing a director of football in the first place, if he isn't allowed to do his job?

Yeah Brands isn't the problem, the problem is the structure of this club is totally and utterly fubar.

That's not how a DoF should function.

Just shows me Brands has little sway over recruitment probably since Silva he seems to have only picked a few players. Which means he either can't do his job because the owner and manager block it or he isn't very good at his job. Probably a bit of both.
