Billy Dean
Player Valuation: £70m
I think the fact that the manager has come out this week and said he's doing a full review of the football operation is a bigger indictment on Brands than any transfer business.

I think he signs players, who were not properly scouted. He probably just phone up agents and ask whoever is available/might be interested....and he signs players without any direction in mind, instead of signing players who complements what's lacking in the team and adds to the quality.
I got this feeling reading his quotes about us trying to sign Donny Van De Beek.

That might have been the case but he isn't in charge of singing anyone now anyway.
Benitez gets the final say.
Issue is Brands is basically a glorified scout and was unable to come up with any right-back targets over than Dumfries (who loads knew anyway even before the Euros), a 19-year-old back-up from Rangers with 20 senior games to his name, and a midfielder who can play right-back.
Clown.
They were both pretty good on Football Manager too. Probably just a coincedence.......Not to mention his previous signings like Iwobi and Moise Kean. Both weren't exactly first team in their previous clubs before signing for us. How would the scouts have known if they only able to show flashes of their abilities on the pitch. I don't think scouts can observe training sessions?
Basically, both were signed due to hype by agents.
Methinks he was probably given a new contract because the were rumours other clubs were looking at hiring him and Moshiri didn't want to lose someone he thinks is an asset, so he was given a new deal, pay rise and a board seat to appease him for not having the control he'd otherwise want. That's my guess anyway.Either he is incompetent or he has no authority.
Why was he given a new contract?
Not sure I can recall the last person to voluntarily chose to walk away from an £80,000 per week contract of employment. I don't think too many people would.Remember when people who were crap at their jobs either got fired or had the decency to resign ?
This has been an issue ever since 2016, the club making bizarre decisions that don't make any sense. Buying numerous players who play in exactly the same position in 2017, we could of signed Dzeko for the amount we spent of Sigurdsonn. Was Besic any worse than players like Davies, the Snide and certain other muppets who were given a pass yet he wasn't, same with Lookman and Deulofeu they were got rid of, despite being not that different from other players at the club.I don't know what he or anybody else does really.
It's hard to apportion blame to anybody as it is such a shambolic mess.
So many questions not only with transfer policy but youth players too, are the youth players really not good enough or is it just a case of never getting the chance to show if they are good or not?
Why do we get so many injuries to expensive players? How do we have 100M of "talent" currently sitting either in our treatment room or a cell and not actually miss any of them? Why do we have a young exciting prospect out on loan to a top side whilst we have some 32 year old chugger playing up front who has already started more games than him in his time here? Why do certain players never seem to get a game whilst others always seem to get played whilst they are equally as crap as each other?
From top to bottom this club is an absolute mess. A weird type of mess too, a totally boring one.
I find it really difficult to pin all the blame on Brand when it's abundantly clear he isn't able to do his job without the interference of Moshiri and Kenwright, as well as probably the manager.
Probably when Calvert-Lewin goes for £30m to Norwich in January and is replaced by 3 goalkeepers, Branislav Ivanovich and 17 year old Andoran midfielder from Tenerife reserves because he's accidentally clicked the wrong button whilst chatting to Jim White... ?When do we discover Brands has been sitting doing nothing most of the time while Moshiri uses his Football Manager database to make all the signings?
