Still no announcement that the Watford compensation saga has been resolved, I wonder if it's been somehow tied in with the Deulofeu to Watford deal? we supposedly had a decent sell on fee owed, nothing was mentioned about that either.

I'm sure we'll shift quite a few more players, but like it or not there will be plenty remaining that have lots of room for improvement also, both with regard to attitude and tactical/technical aspects.

Hopefully as a tracksuit manager, Silva will be able to get a lot more from most of the players.

It's clear that Koeman had little or no interest in this aspect, and from what I have read concerning his brother, he made little impact also. The less said about Allardyce, the better.

If we have a squad of 25 (big ask) with say 4 new signings, that's still 20+ players of which you could count most as those we need to see a lot more from.

New signings are badly needed but Silva is still left with the core of a poor squad for this season no matter what happens.

He needs to promote youth, make the key 3-4 signings we need, and get a tune from the majority of the rest who are staying.

It will be also interesting to see the impact of Joao Pedro and Pedro Conceicao in particular. I know nothing about either of them but keen to see what sort of impact they will have.

Would we not get that money off Barcelona instead of Watford?

Watford pay Barca and Barca pay Everton.

Yes I think so usually, I was thinking maybe we just agreed not to receive our cut, which would negate a tax payment possibly? From what was reported Watford paid Barca about £5m less than the fee in his loan deal which would tie in with us waiving our sell on fee.

I think the tracksuit manager thing is very important, and also probably underpins the desire to get our squad down to 25 men.

Moyes always liked having a smaller squad. If you are a manager who looks to work on the training pitch having 30+ players is too many to have an impact with. You want a smaller group who you will be able to improve (akin to how Moyes did).

You are right about younger players too, they have a great opportunity early doors to make a strong impression and really progress under him.

Why would we agree to that, didn't Watford fire Silva and refuse to pay him thereafter?

You don't think there is the slightest possibility that we approached him illegally whilst he was under contract? we reportedly already offered them compensation which they declined.

It's likely we did, but a fine for such a breach is a lot less than 5 million I'd imagine.
