The reasonable expectations of most this season would be a top 10 finish, improving the footy, moving to a more positive approach, refreshing/improving the 1st team/squad and a decent cup run.

Any team finishing 10th-8th....hell even the team finishing 7th....are going to have some crap games and poor runs.

I don't see much so far to suggest we won't be able match those expectations. As crap as some of the games have been.

Come seasons end we will be looking ahead instead of back and the most important part will come as we start the second part of the squad overhaul.

I don't doubt that this season will be acceptable to most fans when we get to the end.

However I still haven't a clue whether he will be the man to take us onwards and upwards after next summer's transfer window work.

Overall though, the managers alright by me and I'm still fairly positive.

We finished 8th last season. That was a season in which we were managed by Koeman and Allardyce. We spent a lot of money in the summer and you thought top 10 was a realistic expectation. Come on I am all for giving Silva a fair crack of the whip but stop lowering the bar.

ONeill’s side went into meltdown after he effectively threw the UEFA Cup. They were on course to get into the Champions League until that game.

Indeed.

And the next match after that they played Pulls era Stoke to consolidate their position in the top four

They led 2-0 with about 3 minutes to go plus stoppage.

They drew 2-2.

It was all downhill after that.

Cracking match today against Leeds though.

Even though they blew a two goal lead again :(

We finished 8th by parking the bus and squeezing out points.

A much easier ask than changing the first team/squad and getting them to play more expansively.

Spending money doesn't equal instant success.

He needs lots and lots more time but there's nothing wrong with getting flak after we ship 6 at home. He has to do better.

Flack is one thing Tim, and merited after today, but [Poor language removed] swinging to say I'm right like Frank and his ilk are doing is going overboard

Rolling back the years lol

cant wait for him to prove me and my ilk wrong

6pts in the next two games would be handy

I just want us to PROGRESS... it doesn't look like we and our league position suggest this

wolves just had a run of bad results, but they have turned it right round, so it is do-able.

Silva comes across as an ideologue though. You can't play a high line and play expansively unless you have the players that suit that way of playing. If you are going to play expansively and take risks at the back then you need to be confident of outscoring the opposition. That means having forwards who are a real goal threat.

If you want to go from a team that looks to grind out results like we did last season into a team that looks to blow away the opposition then firstly you need to do it gradually and secondly you need the tools to make that transformation.

Silva reminds me of AVB he got results by playing a ridiculously high defensive line in a poorer league and can't really adapt when things go wrong. I think he deserves more time but equally we either need to bring in the players that can improve the way we play or Silva needs to adapt.

We need patience Frank, like you said teams can turn it around after a bad run. It's simple changes that need making, unfortunately 2 of which we don't have good cover for, one is remedied with a better option than the two used today and the other has been long overdue and should be rectified over the next couple weeks

I've no idea what he comes across like to be honest as its way too early to say.

People should go back to what their pre-season expectations were and decide if we are still capable of achieving it as of now.

I don't really care what the last manager did because I don't think it's relative to this season at all....in any way.

Klopps first season (30 games in charge) Liverpool finished in their joint lowest league position since they got relegated mate.

Yes we spent a fair amount in the summer, not exactly a huge amount tbh though in reality, 18m, 40m, 25m on 3 players these days is not outlandish spending by a long stretch.

Plus this spending was by and large trying to plug the huge holes we had all over the squad due to 2 years of utterly woeful players being bought.

This season always should have been about trying to turn over the playing staff with an eye on the future, consolidating as a top half side and remaining behind a manager who could prove long term to be someone who can push the club forwards.

Expecting or demanding to 6 or an instant transformation of the side is ignoring the monumental task of changing the entire ethos of a club that's in real terms done absolutely nothing except exist in the division the past twenty five seasons if people want the club to do a Leeds, villa etc then call for another manager change, but to do so imo shows either stupidity, trying to be a wum, or being a koppite - which a fair few of the obvious ones of all three are in evident lately and especially today.
