The performances havent been the problem (up & til.the the derby) apart from the disasterous lack of concentration and lapses from dead ball situations the football has been pretty good.
Every time a corner or free kick comes into our box we are stood flatfooted and concede in and around our 6 yrd line.
We' ve gone toe to toe with good teams this season and looked good only to be punished for simple basic errors.
This coupled with the glaringly obvious lack of our own predator in this boss has cost us big time.
The longer this has gone on its noticeable heads dropping in the last couple of games.
We MUST get that striker in as soon as possible to give us some sort of fresh impetus ....and sort out the laspes in concentration.
If both arnt addressed I fear for his job.

I honestly think this set-piece point is being overstated. Yes, early on in the season we looked shoddy, just as we have done for years, like, but we were clearly getting used to zonal marking. Zonal marking has now worked for us. We may look shaky but we usually win that first ball. It's the complete lack of reaction - whether from open play or set-pieces - that is the issue, and while coaching can be used to improve that, it surely can't mean Silva is to blame for when, for example, Gomes completely switched off v Spurs and allowed Alli to run off him.

Obviously, the coaching has to be better as well, but there's only so much Silva can do and if a player or players switch off then how does he stop that? I'm not saying it's impossible to do, but the main impetus is on the player.

I agree with you it's ultimately on the manager, but 'lapses in concentration' can only really be fixed by the players at the time when it matters most - which is on the pitch. The manager can help by ensuring everybody knows their jobs, but only the players can do what needs to be done at the crucial moment.

im not the most active user in this forum but i visit here from time to time and what this got to do with supporting Silva? hes the guy, he showed succes if we give him good players we are just on a bad run. i am a bit clever so i wont generalize people and say why the most active people is impatience fan i will just say you are a impatience guy who thinks we should win every game.
Sorry I do not understand half that rambling.

The funniest thing against Leicester was seeing Keane and Zouma zonal marking, and Kenny picking up Harry Maguire from set pieces.

Yep, it was odd - but that's zonal marking.

If you noticed in the second half, mate, when Leicester had a corner down the same flank (but attacking the opposite way, obviously) it was Digne on Maguire - because Maguire was drifting to the far post, so it was the full-back on said side's job to mark whoever was there.

Whether we agree with it or not, that's zonal marking. And they didn't create one chance from that situation.

The only time Maguire got in from a set-piece (and he was offside anyway) was when he - ironically enough - peeled off Zouma and Keane...

its no coincidence that maguire ended up against digne or Kenny.

Leicester obv worked out that the zonal system we use would mean by placing maguire at the far stick meant there would be a huge opportunity ... it didn't work out this time but other teams will work on the same tactic

And? They didn't score. They didn't create a chance. Just because it was odd, doesn't negate the fact that it worked.

He likes zonal marking - a lot of managers do, a lot don't. But if you're going to use a system, then you stick to it.

As I said, the one time our big cb's were around Maguire from a set-piece, they let him go - fortunately just catching him off. So would it have made a difference had one of them being on him?

Now, I'd say you could counter that by instead of having Digne or Kenny, have Gomes, but if we're set up in a system to defend a set-piece, then that's clearly the system we used. It's likely they'd been training like that - so that the back four are, really, all in a line, in formation, across the width of the six yard box.

He could really do with recording a handful of meaningful wins between now and the end of the season. The final league position is probably going to be a poor one, but that'll be easily overlooked if he turns over a few of the better sides at Goodison and doesn't get walloped in the derby.
