I honestly think this set-piece point is being overstated. Yes, early on in the season we looked shoddy, just as we have done for years, like, but we were clearly getting used to zonal marking. Zonal marking has now worked for us. We may look shaky but we usually win that first ball. It's the complete lack of reaction - whether from open play or set-pieces - that is the issue, and while coaching can be used to improve that, it surely can't mean Silva is to blame for when, for example, Gomes completely switched off v Spurs and allowed Alli to run off him.

Obviously, the coaching has to be better as well, but there's only so much Silva can do and if a player or players switch off then how does he stop that? I'm not saying it's impossible to do, but the main impetus is on the player.

I agree with you it's ultimately on the manager, but 'lapses in concentration' can only really be fixed by the players at the time when it matters most - which is on the pitch. The manager can help by ensuring everybody knows their jobs, but only the players can do what needs to be done at the crucial moment.

I totally understsnd the Zonal marking bit as that takes time.
Just watch Locadia's goal for Brighton....just sums it all up.

Big Sam had us top 8 with a snides Rooney and davies on midfield.
So i wouldn't call it a miracle for this sqaud to finish top 8.
