The problem really is a likely fall-off in league placing and points total whilst producing a lot of limp and turgid performances.

Lack of a striker is a huge issue, but its the very nature of the performances that is deeply concerning. You can go through an experimental/transition phase producing poor results on paper, but at least from a team that looks as if its playing under a plan that "might" come together at a later stage if everyone sticks with it and better players are added to the mix.

There is none of that at present, nothing that Silva can point to by way of offering encouragement. If things worsen, then when that's put to him, he will struggle to find a rebuttal of any credibility, other than needing more money. By the time that gets trotted out at Everton, as we saw with Koeman, things already tend to have gone on an irreversible slide for whoever it is in the dug-out.

Allegedly not been given any funds for players in January - two reasons for this -1- saving funds for new ground - 2 - Moshiri feels hes had enough funds , and may be looking at his future as our Manager.......

I remember someone said after Koeman lost 3-0 at Home to Spurs (think it was the Blue Room) "that's the kind of performance that gets a manager the sack". It proved prescient and within 2 months Koeman was gone.

I had the same thoughts, oddly after the Spurs game this season. We are at a similar timeline now and it hasn't picked up massively. I had hoped the Burnley game would act as a turnaround in performances but it hasn't really.

I don't want us to sack Silva. I still have faith in him as a manager and I think we'd look ridiculous doing so now. That being said come the summer the balance of forces look very different. If we finish the season 11th then all bets are on really.

I'd also say, if the form doesn't turn around he will find supporters turning on him quickly. I'll be frank, the FA Cup is very important to him. Even just having a good run will likely buy him time. It will keep some degree of positivity amongst the fan base and keep attention off him. Lose on Saturday though and the process I've outlined above gets rocket fuel put into it. We just have a mundane run to the end of another disappointing season. As Allardyce found, 4 months is a long time to keep fans on side in that regards.

I am all for giving managers time, however the two managers who were given time last (Moyes and Martinez) both started very well in the job. I think if you don't do that, don't get much credit in the bank then you really struggle in modern football.

Everyone knows that apart from other difficulties with sub standard players, Silva is paying the price of the failure to replace Lukaku. Moshiri admitted that. They threw everything at signing Giroud and that collapsed. All our existing strikers are inadequate. Having said that we are only 2 results off 7th place.

There’s no way we’re saving funds for the new ground joey lol we not signing anyone till we get the new ground?. It’s more of maybe shift some
Players and the wage bill. Tbh if they don’t let him sign a striker they are a joke

you didn't want Allardyce and I didn't want this chancer. we are way we are

both play absolutely atrocious football.

thing is I have zero confidence in Moshiri. he is not a football person and he is proving it.

hes an arsenal fan at the end of the day. what is he even doing at our club??

Trying to build a team... he’s done more than BK and his cronies ever ever has.

Silva has been underwhelming, there's no doubt about that. What did people really expect from this season though? This isn't like under Martinez where we'd been used to finishing 5th-7th every year and suddenly found ourselves in the bottom half, or under Koeman where we were spending a shed load of money for the first time and expected to break the top 6, I thought we were all fairly clear that 7th would be as good as it got, with a good chance of being lower? So why the panic?

We've seen from recent appointments that if Silva was to be sacked (I can't really believe i'm even giving credence to the suggestion by saying it but there you go) we'd just appoint Eddie Howe or someone else from exactly the same tier as we currently have, so we'd just be seeing if he had a bit more luck basically. Unless things go seriously pear shaped then Silva needs 2 years to try to do something. It's not even patience so much as realism, we're not going anywhere quickly no matter what happens. This season hasn't been what I hoped for but it hasn't been a total disaster either. At some point we need to give somebody a chance to put their stamp on things, and stop thinking that sacking a coach or changing the captain is going to make us a totally different side.

There does have to be some perspective. The last 4 seasons we scored 47, 47, 62 and 49 points. The season we scored 62 it was because we had a lad who scored 25 goals. You take him put, put another player in who gets 10-15 and we are back at in and around the high 40's mark. We also have to factor in, within those 4 seasons we have gone through 4 managers. It hasn't worked out well changing and I'm not sure another change works. It's a costly exercise.

That being said, that is about all that can be said for Silva currently. People's desire for stability and an acknowledgment of what a hole we were in.

The smart thing to do would be to state it's a long term project and we are looking to build on a base that is above 50 points. In truth this process is not made easier by Moshiri stating 11th is not good enough in public. We know that, but it leads to an inconsistency.

The other key point in this, is that Silva added 6 players in the summer who were all good players and let go of lads who for the most part were surplus to requirements. It's not unreasonable to expect an improvement.
