Marco Silva

and its the manner of Silva's defeats which are in total contrast to ours.

in ALL of Silva's defeats this season, his team should actually of won.

wheresas, all of our defeats have been deserving. Not even a sniff of a comeback or even competing, bar, strangely enough the Watford result.

The problem is though mate, knee jerking is difficult full stop.

At Hull he took over a side which was as poor as Sunderland and got them competitive quickly. He nearly doubled their points per game tally.

This season at Watford I actually think is his worst job so far. Thats not to slate the guy, but rather to state what a good job he has done elsewhere. Watford were 17th last season and he has got them playing good football, though like you I'd have been interested to see how he'd have dealt with this current downturn in form. That being said I don't think many Evertonians want to wait another handful of games.

If I was Watford I would be looking at things now, and thinking 4 weeks of posturing with Everton could well harm them more than Everton. We have an inviting set of fixtures and the possibility that Unsworth may steer us to relative safety. If he gets the hump and throws the towel in, they could find themselves in a very tricky spot as the games come thick and fast. It could quickly quickly become 10 defeats out of 12 or something with them in and around the bottom 3.

In most of these situations common sense prevails, but not before every party has to what I call moralise their own discourse. Watford have to engineer it that they've tried to keep him and he's a traitor, while Everton and Silva have to make it look like there's been no tapping up.

From this point on I won't pay too much attention on Silva's performance, it's almost an impossible job, being at a club who go through a manager each year, with players who tend to down tools when they know a managers going. I think it would be a big risk for Watford to drag this out much further, with the way games are coming thick and fast. If they mess about too much they could find themselves towards the relegation place quickly.

Catcher.

When he took over at Hull, after twenty games, they were three points from the safety of 17th place.

Eighteen games later they were six points adrift of 17th place.

I won’t repeat myself by stating the situation Hull were in with three games to go.....suffice it to say defeat was snatched from victory’s very jaws.

I am sorry, that does not go down as a particularly good job in my eyes :(

It does seem he is on his way here. That's tough for Watford but his stay with us may be also short lived, though they would be right to be peeved after just a handful of games.
We have our place in the food chain, as do Watford and outside of the elite, there is no such thing as loyalty and long-term commitment.

You would hope at the least though that he would see out one contract with us in full; if that's 2 1/2 years then fine. We have to get used to comings and goings, it's the reality we are in unless somehow we can get ourselves together and mount some degree of challenge to the top six.

It's a risk for him if he has his eye on better, which begs the question as to what is success at Everton. I don't think a return to the Koeman status quo of 7th/best of the rest is going to attract much suitors here or abroad. So if he does come the job is massive.

It brings into focus again the DoF. I don't get the impression Silva was the top target all along, he just seems to be the last man standing that is acceptable generally to both board and fans. We have really botched the whole process. He would join a club bereft of clear purpose and organisation but money talks.

Ultimately if he comes here and does well enough to attract a more powerful beast, then I'm happy to settle for that. For me, losing an Everton manager because he won something or otherwise made us competitive, although tough, would be a price well worth paying.

I think part of the difficulties that are playing out, in the wider football world, in typical EFC fashion is we are not communicating our true intent particularly effectively to the outside world. Moshiri seems to make the occasional outlandish remark but then back it up very little with any kind of reform within the internal aspects of the club. He then seems to run a parallel search for a manager, and much of the detail he gives seems very private so it doesn't really change much consciousness of the club in the wider public and media.

I think that leaves other chairman a bit bewildered and then concerned as to how to justify this to their fan base. From our side it makes me wonder exactly why he is operating in this way. For an astute businessman it's clear it's far from ideal.

As for Silva, I sense he will be here 18 months. It may only be 6. Both Silva and Everton (or at least the Moshiri faction) seem to want to move their own trajectory upwards very quickly. Unless this happens for both parties at the same pace it's difficult to see that lasting beyond a medium term arrangement. I don't think it's what Everton ideally need currently, but sometimes you have to compromise before you can get to the position you ideally want to be. Koeman moved us forward, before dropping us back to square one, and I think Silva will do the same. That should allow the club to potentially reach a higher calibre of manager (ideally the long term one) next time with hopefully a handy compensation package when Silva moves on.

I agree mate, but lots of sides picked up form towards the end of the season didn't they? I imagine Palace were in and around them at that point, who had Allardyce and a massive chunk of money (while keeping their best players).

I seem to remember Hull having 7 points from 3 games, then really struggling. He led an upturn in performance with a side that was in a dreadful run of form and who had sold a number of their key players.

Ha Ha Ha. This is great from Watford-friendly reporter at the Mirror (apologies if already posted):

"Marco Silva has refused to commit himself to Watford beyond this weekend's home game with West Ham – and he wants owner Gino Pozzo to thrash out his future with Everton counterparts Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri. Hornets godfather Pozzo has turned down two approaches from the shambling Merseysiders – who are still searching for Ronald Koeman's replacement 25 days after the Dutchman was sacked at Goodison Park.

Two offers of £10million compensation from Kenwright and Moshiri have been dismissed out of hand by Watford. But just 12 games into his two-year contract, it is increasingly evident that Silva – who has no release clause – is finding the prospect of a £4m-a-year package and a £70m transfer kitty in January too vulgar to ignore.

If Everton were to come back with a third offer, it would require a record settlement to prise the fiercely-ambitious Portugese coach away from Vicarage Road in mid-season. Facing the music for the first time since the first smoke signals from Merseyside became a choking black cloud in Hertfordshire, Silva failed to declare his unqualified loyalty to Watford time and again.

He claimed: “I am working as normal and at the moment I don't know if there has been an offer or not, or what has happened. “This is the moment for the owners to talk to each other about the situation, but Everton is not the club where I work. I can tell you Everton is a big club, nothing more.” Asked if he wanted to talk to the sickly Toffees – three wins and six defeats in 11 Premier League games – Silva was more evasive than a politician on Question Time. He said: “I don't answer this question because I read many things during the week. The media wrote that I didn't want to talk to anybody, then they said I did. What I want to do is talk with my owner, the board and my players as well, nobody else. I do my job normally, like the first day I came here.”

So this is your last match as Watford manager, then?

“Why are you sure about that? I really don't know.”

Toys well and truly thrown out of the pram. lol

Watford will be laughing soon, 10m plus for a manager they only gave a 2 year contract too who they wouldn’t have extended anyway if you follow there trend.

It's a ridiculous attitude...especially from a local reporter (as he was for Watford) who's no doubt been waving through the constant managerial dismissals by Godfather Pozzo.

if it does happen, Watford FC are in no position to say anything regards a manager leaving them early for once.

20 games in they had 13 points from 20 games = 0.65 points per game - on course for a 24/25 point season
last 18 games they got 21 points = 1.17 points per game - on course for a 44/45 point season

So silva was averaging double nearly the points per game for Hull after he took over

IF you take it as 18 games before he took over and the 18 after it becomes even more stark the difference he made,. as Hull had a weird start winning their first two.

18 games prior to Silva taking charge - 7 points = 0.38 points per game - on course for a 14/15 point season

so the difference in the 18 games before and after he took over was over 3 times the points per game

In any book mate that is a massive improvement, Watford btw are currently on course for a 52 point season (1.38 ppg), they got 40 last year (1.05 ppg)
