ha! sometimes you do take it one step over the edge lol

3rd-best season since the 80's is still a sound achievement, the best two being 94-95 and 04-05. One of 07-08/08-09 in honorary 4th place, I reckon.
A best season with 61 points?

Lol. I think you need to take a step back from the edge.

True. Best PL season though, unquestionably. 21 wins out of 38 games...what would you give for a season like that again right now?

Given how the last two managers both posted up -good then decent first seasons mate, i'm holding fire on the praise till i see second season progression from the next one - or lifting old big ears etc

Best is relative, it obviously just doesn't mean number of points won. It means in which position we finished, how many amazing memories we had of the season, what were our expectations, did we beat the shyte (or did we finish above them) and a few more subjective qualities.

In the last 20 years it was.

But it wasn't though. A 4th placed finish is better than a 5th placed one. The reason for higher points totals from year to year can be influenced by the standard of the other teams as well.

By the logic you and DaveK are applying, Everton had a better season in 1985-86 when we finished 2nd than 1986-87 when we won the League. Got 86 points in both, but had a better goal difference by 1 in 1985-86 so surely had a better season?

In the last 20 years our best season was 04-05. Since the 80's both 94-95 with the FA Cup win and 04-05 were better achievements than the 5th placed finish under Martinez. Would rank it 3rd.

In the 25 years I've had my ST, Martinez 1st season was by far the best.

That's my opinion. Yours may differ.

Successful and memorable seasons are marked by major trophies, not points or runners up positions. Every manager , or for that matter player, whose tenure at Everton Football Club has not resulted in one trophy can be safely adjudged a resounding failure.

..not sure if he’s brought in many players but Watford were terrific down the left side and the corner taker hit terrific delivery. Be interested if they are his players. Gray was a handful.
Gray looked a handful because Jags is snail slow,as long as we don't have a replacement we'll always look vulnerable on the counter. As for Silva as a manager,he's the only foreigner who might possibly be available who has Prem experience of managing a squad of mostly average players.

Fair enough but in terms of which was a more successful season (appreciate anything other than a trophy win is not truly success) then 4th is better than 5th.
