As close as can be without an announcement, basically at this point.

The briefing from one side yesterday made that pretty clear.

“Everton hope to appoint silva as manage this week” with info about contract length and meetings with Brands. Hmmmmm.

Im pretty sure there has been a lot of back channeling between brands and silva. I assume that this has been lined up on all sides since April and under the radar communication.
Saying that, "As close as can be with an announcement" makes me think of the likes of Muller, Manuel Fernandes, and umpteen strikers in recent years.

Marco Silva was not my first choice.. or even second.
But, the second he is appointed he will have my full support and I will, as I usually do when we appoint a new manager, be full of hope and optimism for our future.... hopefully , he delivers unlike so many of the others.

Reasons to be cheerful.
A young enthusiastic young manager bringing us all on a journey into the unknown. There is a sense of mystery about this and a sense of uncertainty and even those who will mock the appointment will have a doubt but that this could be the second coming of HK.

Silva has Premiership experience which is a huge benefit, his record in the league can be considered dismal or showing much potential depending on your point of view.

I am encouraged by the steadfastness displayed by Moshiri in going after Silva. This is no wishy washy appointment but a determined chase to get just one man without, it would appear, even considering other options. This chase has not been easy, or cheap, and it is nice to know that whoever advises Moshiri is so adamant . Last November you would have said that Steve Walsh was an advisor, but he has since left and I would guess has long since lost the ear of Moshiri . Was it Brands recommended Silva last November/ December or somebody else ?

I think that our transfer dealings this summer will give us a flavour of what is to come. Hopefully , we see the signings of some young pacey mavericks . We need to get some swagger into the club, some flair and unpredictability which the better teams have and really would never have been the focus of Moyes, Koeman or Allyrdyce... to be fair to Martinez he did his best but forgot that a team must defend as well as attack.

We have already had the second coming of HK... and the third. We just need game plan.
Spurs apart from the last 4-5 years Spurs have been no better than us. However, they have always had a world class player in their prime that crowd can get behind (Gazza, Ginola, Bale, Berbatov, Kane etc), and played attractive football. If we have to finish 7 or 8th, this should be the minimal requirement.
It means taking punts on 21-25 year old players with big reputations, and accepting we will sell them on. Not rely signing 17 years olds long shots. We have had very few "world class" players in the last 20 years.

Done this with Rooney, Fellaini, Stones, Lukaku and others in the past and it hasn't helped us. I think we have deeper issues.

I think its the way go about it, Liverpool have the game plan to always sell there best players but they have the replacement in first and know exactly where the money is going to go next, so they dont miss them as much, such as Coutinho. It might be different with Suarez and Salah when they went/go as they have rare talent, but with us its sell the player then have no clue who to buy and what to do next.
I think we have got lucky a few times by getting silly fees for certain players, such as Lukaku who clearly wasnt worth what we got, but we then had no idea who to buy to replace him and who to add to the squad with the money. We also now have the problem we dont have any big value players left, which isnt something we have had to worrry about for a long time, we cant sell big to generate budget and the TV is just what everyone else has so that won get us ahead of the rest of the middle table.
