Really, Marco? Really?!
The defense is fine. I’d love to have another CB for Keane, but you can’t turn over an entire roster due to FPP every year. We’ve given up the second fewest shots of any team in the PL. The team Marco inherited conceded more goals than anyone from open play. He turned a laughing stock of an outfit into a top 5 PL defense last year and it looks every bit as good this year.I am willing to reserve judgement until 2020. However:
- We have a massive hole slashed into us by Gueye leaving, who did the job of 2 players. His replacement had no pre-season with us and got injured straight away. Replacing Gueye with Schneiderlin is like swapping Champagne for Bucks Fizz
- Centre half. How can we press high when we have 2 very slow centre halves. This sucks the confidence from everyone when we don't have the cover of Zouma's pace. I think Marco was led to believe we were getting Zouma right up until Luiz signed for Arsenal. Put that down to a Brands failure. Thankfully we didn't get saddled with Rojo on £150k a week on a 5 year deal! Centre Half with pace in january.
- Striker. What the hell is it with Everton and strikers? We needed a striker as back-up to Lukaku the day he signed permanently. It used to be left-midfield, how have we been left in this position again? It isn't DCL's fault that he is absolute garbage and will never make it, he is living the dream... like the old golf pro at your local course getting a wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup. Yes, Kean is a fantastic signing, but he was never going to come straight in and blow this league away at 19. Either stick with Kean, play Tosun and play for his strengths, or even play Simms. Just never wanna see DCL in the team again. At 27/28 DCL will be playing at his peak... at Forest Green! He would suit those inoffensive, compassionate, its not-about-winning-its-about-taking-part vegans. Bin DCL, please. His career highlight we be getting the number 9 shirt for one season at Everton FC.
- I remember Martinez changing our style at home to Man U and let them have the possession - the only game in 15 we didn't have the majority possession. We won 2-0. Then he played a curveball in the form of Lukaku on the right wing against Arsenal. Won 3-0. Since then, I cannot recall a team selection or change in tactics suited to the opposition that outwitted the other team. We are the most predictable team in the league by a country mile. Plan B and C please. If Tosun comes on, the whole team is abundantly aware of how we should play etc. Changes in style should be drilled into the team.
- Iwobi, As decent as he seems to be, for the same money we could have got Lozano. Brands in April: "I would be interested in Lozano at £20m". How much would he have paid for Iwobi at the same time? £10m?
- Sigurdsson. For all his critics, he is absolutely screwed by playing with DCL, he drags everyone down a level or 2 by his inability to play football. We should play 4-3-3 with Delph, Gomes and Davies with a fluid front 3 of Richarlison, Iwobi and Kean.
I do have a sinking feeling this will be Silvas last season if we show no progress - i.e not top 6, no cup or final stages of a cup run. The fans and board will deffo be swerving him if its more of the same. Brands is 100% more than likely to pick his man for next venture and tbh it is better than moshiri grabbing flavour of the month manager once more.
i hope we dont go down the manager roulette again but I think with Brands in place things will be different. Watch ....this...space......(again, rinse, repeat).

well if the guy trains hard and gets his head down what's the problem? may not be good enough these days like but may have the right attitude
are you being outraged for the sake of it? What's wrong with this.
The one thing Brands/Silva has added is pace to the squad, important in modern football, I just wish Silva could utilised it. I was concerned when Koemans buying spree resulted in players that didn’t have pace, bar Bolasie so I could see that being a problem. That’s been sorted we have done quick players, but as I said before Silva doesn’t know how to use the, 433 would be so nice to so, but mr stubborn I doubt will change it.He's too cautious away from home. Bin this 451 lark and get your best team on the pitch and play 433, forwards play high midfield works hard and the defence is solid that's all Liverpool do they have clasiser players but their tactics aren't complicated. Just have a go we aren't getting results away doing what we are doing ao change the boring script. Also his subs are chronic why chuck on loads of strikers after we go behind? Why not make proactive subs to win the game?!!!??!!
I think you’ve knocked the nail on the head, I think Sigurdsson is our main problem, he’s technically our most gifted player but it difficult to play fast with him in the side. But if Silva is going to keep his job long term he’s going to have to find a way.I think his major problem is the lack of goals in the side. He feels like he has to shoehorn Sigurdsson in to the detriment of the team because he's more of a goal threat than our strikers. I'm not saying he's right to do it, but I can understand why he does.
Whoa. He plays faster than anyone because he moves the ball. His problem is that he's giving it away and not creating enough.I think you’ve knocked the nail on the head, I think Sigurdsson is our main problem, he’s technically our most gifted player but it difficult to play fast with him in the side. But if Silva is going to keep his job long term he’s going to have to find a way.
I think the main thing is we just don't have enough firepower. We struggle to score more than one goal, so the chances of us winning a game immediately diminish quite substantially as soon as we concede a goal, whether it's the first goal or not. 11 of the 15 games we won last year were something nil, and the Wolves game a couple of weeks ago was the first time we'd won a game where the opposition scored since boxing day. We struggle to break teams down, and scoring the first goal tends to mean teams have to come at us so we pick them off. If we go behind they don't, and we haven't got the quality to score twice against packed defences.View attachment 67075
That second one is an atrocious record to have. Is it one single thing responsible for that? Bad subs? Player attitude? Bad tactics (no plan B)? Or all of that and more? At this point anyone we're against knows they just have to score first and they'll get points, nearly guaranteed.
yup! agreed. But the board will be expectingmore as more money has been spent, rightly so in a way. We should be more consistent and the squad is way better than it was. Hmmmm maybe he is given 3 seasons then. Why do we expect Silva to get us in the top 6 if we don’t have even close to top 6 talent? I’m not saying it’s impossible that it won’t happen this year, but there’s still a pretty significant talent gap.
Quick brain yes, but not quick legs the likes of Kean, Walcott, Richarlison Bernard I would say are all faster. But you are right he isn’t creating nowhere near enough.Whoa. He plays faster than anyone because he moves the ball. His problem is that he's giving it away and not creating enough.
He has but still we lack it in central midfield. Especially with Gbamin out.The one thing Brands/Silva has added is pace to the squad, important in modern football, I just wish Silva could utilised it. Definitely not quick legs, that's for sure.Quick brain yes, but not quick legs the likes of Kean, Walcott, Richarlison Bernard I would say are all faster. But you are right he isn’t creating nowhere near enough.
Even with everyone healthy, we lack a LOT in central midfield. Gbamin is also a good athlete, but he's more physical vs. quick. We just need that dynamic 8 that can run like a madman and both create and disrupt. Hard to find, not cheap, but man do we need it.He has but still we lack it in central midfield. Especially with Gbamin out.
