I have said it before but we need a big personality in the dug-out.

The last time I felt rejuvenated was when Royle got the job in '94 and Moyes immediately struck a chord also with his "People's Club" comments.

No doubt it's a tough job but the whole club and players need rallying now.

Some intellectual student of the game is fine but we badly need leadership and even a bit of charisma.
We need this in spades mate, but we'll end up with Phil Neville no doubt.

Totally agree with Iceland, any normal player would drop to collect. I’d even question Richarlison and Dom’s positions

I don't disagree with either of you that in that position Gylfi should be dropping in to collect the ball

But, that means one of the two CMs has to push on, or its pointless.

Gyfli has no pace. He can't drop back to the halfway line, spin and then drive through four players because he simply isn't quick enough.

So it would require one of our CMs to push on and make that run to create space or a passing option, with the wide players and striker also needing to do that too.

So this is my point all along. You can't just blame Gylfi there. Sure, he should drop back, but we'd be in the same position anyway because of the tactics. The only players who make runs are the FBs and wide players. So there's no other target.

All Gyfli can do when he drops back - as he's done a fair bit actually - is get it and then give a simple pass back again because that is all that there is on. Because of the tactics.

But what if the DoF is the problem? The standard of player he's brought in has been poor overall...and expensively assembled. Over £200M he's spent - would you say it's been good value?

A manager plays with that deck he's handed.

It's unclear yet if Brands has been doing a good job.... Have we actually signed the quality we thought we had?.....

What we do know, is our league position is a massive underachievement for the players we have... Probably our summer signings made us no closer to challenging the Top 6, but we know we should be getting results against Villa, Sheff Utd, Burnley etc...

Its early days, but when we've had opportunities to move into the Top 4 so far this season, we've put in lacklustre performances and shown no fire at all... Why aren't our players hungry, fighting for results?.... That's down to the manager for me.... I've never been excited by 1 interview I've heard him give (I can barely understand most of the stuff he mumbles)....
Royle and Moyes could motivate, I don't think Silva can...

After the game, he said we needed to work harder... Wasn't that always the minimum requirement?, we should be working as hard as possible already..

It's about phases. The attacking mid needs to show for the ball so that the central midfielders can push into space.

If in the first phase Sigurdsson does nothing then you can't place blame on the central midfielders because they can't move until the ball sticks to the - lol - "playmaker", so they have something to move into.

I can and do blame Gylfi, 100%. It is tactically all on him.

Clueless!

There has been a deafening silence in recent weeks from the club. There hasn't been a comment from Moshiri, Brands or even Bill Kenwright.

I think there is little doubt that even if the intention is to keep Silva as manager then alternatives are being identified and possibly agents being contacted about availability. It would be lunacy not to do this.

If the play was all directed through him I'd agree. But it's not. So no, it's not 100% tactically on him. It's the manager who decides the tactics.

Should Gylfi be playing? No. Should we be playing a formation to suit him? No. But if he does play, would it not be sensible to switch the tactics to get the best out of everyone?

Look, you say it's about phases. That's correct. But it wouldn't change with us. There are plenty of times this season where he's dropped in to space (he did it tons v Bournemouth) but had no forward options for a quick pass because neither of the midfielders had pushed on.

There's constantly a big gap between our bombing-on FBs and the striker because if he's not there, then our other midfielders haven't pushed on.

You can't pin it all on one player when the tactics are the manager's decision. And the manager's tactics have never been to build up in phases. They're all about getting it wide and lobbing crosses in. Which is utterly pointless against most teams in this league.

Why would there be?

Moshiri made a comment this time two years ago with that 'unexpected loss' nonsense. He's learned to keep his mouth shut since then. We sacked Koeman three weeks later.

You aren't getting it. It's not going through him at all because he, personally, makes it impossible to do so. That's not tactical - that's an abortion of a footballer not doing the basics.

He isn't tactically told to do nothing every game - he chooses to do that.

A moment is needed to.think.that Silva will have a moment to sort out the defence and in a moment the team will sort it all out. It only takes a moment to change it
