This is about silva I thought? Oh wait...

I mean, it quite clearly is Matty. It's about you being an absolutely monster hypocrite about Silva having back-slided AOTS on other issues.

So now it is time for you to "behave".

It’s just as toxic to keep bad managers around as it is to keep firing mangers. I’d rather the option that gives me a small amount of hope. Revolving door it is

That's not neccesarily the case:

"In the same way that water seeks its own level, numbers and series of numbers will move towards the average, move towards the ordinary," David Sally, co-author of the football statistics book The Numbers Game, explains.

"The extraordinary, numbers-wise, is followed by the ordinary; the ordinary is followed by the ordinary; the ordinary is what happens. The average is what happens more often than not."

It's this phenomenon which is taking place when we witness a small bounce-back in performance immediately after a new manager is appointed. But crucially, it would have happened anyway, and may well have been much cheaper for clubs who sacked their managers to hang on rather than be faced with a hefty pay-off.

To put it bluntly, according to Sally "a short term decline in performance is not a good reason to be firing your manager".

Years ago I read a paper on this that showed that replacing the manager mid season usually brings a dramatic change in points per game (and not always a positive one) before regression to the mean. The average length of the disrupted period was 8 games.

I'm not sure, unless there is a stellar long term option immediately willing to step in, that canning Silva is the answer to our problems. Locking him in a room and showing him videos of teams playing a 433... maybe.

It's like playing with the grandkids.

At least Kev is staying level headed on twitter
