Voted out as I can't see anything changing with the current setup.

Martinez/Jones as 1 and 2 is never going to work. Both are too attack minded. One of them need to be changed at least. Then our defensive coach has been no higher than lower leagues before us.

As Bobby is going nowhere I would like to see Jones gone and a top drawer defensive minded coach alongside him. Probably a little difficult to find one though as it is these types of coaches that go on to management. From an EFC point of view I would have someone like Stubbs or Weir but I would even look at someone like Gary Monk to come in alongside Bobby for now.

The objective for us is to build a team littered with genuine talented youngsters who are capable of challenging for silverware and champs league places. Thats something Martinez has talked up many times. This strategy comes with pit falls most notably the fact that this needs time to develop. The main problem with this is us as fans and the the young players buying into this vision and staying the course. It's quite easy to stray from this when results and form are bad, understandably so. But how else can we move forward with limited finances and ambition from the board? I fail to see how sacking Martinez and bringing in a more experienced manager solves this. If a new manager comes in its highly possible that all these youngsters we've seen come on leaps and bounds would either move on or be moved to the sidelines in place of more safer journeymen type players, which In turn doesn't really move the club forward.

Saying that we should be doing better at the moment. Martinez was given an easy ride after last seasons debacle. However I do feel we are a couple of back to back wins off going on a storming run. The ingredients are there and its time for them to start mixing.

Offensively we have this team now as can be seen with the goals scored and Bobby should take full credit for this.
Defensively we have gone backwards and he has to take the blame for this. Buying up youngsters from around the lower leagues means nothing yet and could take years to come to fruition.

I have a horrible feeling that he has asked some players to give him this season to go for top 4. If it doesn't happen then some may move on.

Roberto hasn't shown the tactical development required to be a top top phenomenal coach. And with us stuttering along I think a change now would see us rescue the season. Getting Mourinho could be a master stroke but we would have to understand that he is a short term high gain manager. If he could get us a trophy and into Europe though then a more long term manager could be found.

Mother of god

Am i actually seeing genuine calls for Mourinho here

I'm telling you - Kipper never reached these heights.

Yeah Im expecting Lukaku and Stones to be gone to be fair.

Two seasons ago, we were playing the most beautiful football I think a lot of us ever saw us play. The players felt free. Open. And that translated on the pitch. We need to start playing like that again.

It was great to watch for 3/4 of that season but in the end the opposition worked it out. We maybe thought we could get away with again last season but failed.
Anyway I think our style is much better this season but without sounding like a broken record it is our defending that catching us out. This is where I feel Bobby comes up short.

I think this a great post mate. He is trying to build something longer terms but young players are inconsistent.

There is one caveat though. And that is if we are unable to progress quickly enough we will find ourselves increasingly in a situation where we cannot hold onto these young players. If we finish 10th this season I find it hard to believe we will be able to keep Stones And Lukaku in the summer. Deulofeu could easily go too with us having little control.

It's one thing having an objective to develop world class players. However world class players don't stay playing for sides who are 10th very long. Lukaku could play for any side in England now, if we are 10th what can we offer him?

It is a very difficult situation really.

It is a great post.....and maybe I'm in a minority, but if sacrificing a few of our best players means longer term benefit then that's the price to be paid. Football clubs and their supporters are there for the long term but unfortunately players are transient....in general they have no real connection with the Club. The Club is just their current employer.
However, I also think that the quality players like Stones and Lukaku aren't your stereotypical stupid footballers....both have matured beyond their years footballing wise under Martinez and Evertons tutelage and both have negative stories associated with themselves football-wise. Lukaku was bombed out at a so-called big Club ( allegedly because he missed a penalty) but more realistically because a self proclaimed 'Chosen One' of a manager didn't recognise his talent and ability. Stones could have followed the lure of 'Champions League' football and joined Chelsea....where would it have got him? At a Club in total disarray. Both however decided, or had decided for them, that staying at Everton was best for their personal development, and both have been proved right on that specific point thus far.
The lure of playing in the Champions League is a bit of a myth....it's really the lure of doubling your wages, or delivering a hefty cheque to your agent. In truth, are Arsenal, City or Chelsea likely to progress much in the Champions League regularly when there's teams of the calibre of Barca, Real, Bayern and Athletico in the competition?
Fanciful, and to most unrealistic I know, but I don't concur with the notion that our best players will leave this season-end.
