The TeamTalk ads (on ITV teletext page 141, I think) were the best. One cryptic line like 'Blues eye French ace' was all you had to go on, unless you were happy to risk your dad's wrath by dialing the 50p/minute line to get the (baloney) story.

Hahaha, I think I rang one myself once. My dad wasn't pleased.
 
I remember around 1996/97 we never had the Everton app to listen, read or watch videos so I phoned club call I think it was called and listened to Dave Watson's post match interview for about 5 minutes. That was 50p a minute! I could hardly hear a word he was saying!
 
I want my manager to come out and say that. Every team on day one of the season needs to aim to win the league, staying up is not an achievement. What is the point in playing a season if you have given up on being the best team before a ball is kicked?

The champions league has encouraged this. Now we are aiming for fourth, all season it has been can we finish fourth. Why is finishing fourth an achievement? It means we are 3 teams off from being the best and to settle for less than that is partly the reason why 8 teams every year give up by March. Nil satis nisi optumim used to stand for something in football, now we settle for less than what we should aim for.

good on Roberto, that's the reason why we still can dream of champions league and not already know where we are going to finish.
 

Anyone remember Radio Merseyside's Soccer Dial. Premium rate phone line in the 70s. Way before its time and the only heavy breathing was your own in case your mum caught you running up the phone bill.
