Martinez Mayhem

Well, seems like he’s going to get the job - at least on a short term basis anyway. If/when he arrives who’s he playing and in which formation? Does he promote kids?

From memory with us he favoured a 4-2-3-1 but with Belgium (and I think maybe Wigan) he loved 3 at the back.

Guess your lineups for his first game.
We aren't hiring Martinez.

He's somebody that might blow some positive energy in this squad.

He did exactly that when started in Belgium. There are worse options out there...

I'd like to think the Martinez stuff is well managed noise, and we're pursuing someone else behind the scenes.

It would clearly be a daft appointment... From 5 in the back line to nobody... Perhaps he'll come with a defensive coach.

Loved the way we used to ping the ball in his first season. We were great to watch

The man who signed Niasse, Alcaraz and Kone.

Will be interesting to see him try to play out from the back with Keane, Godfrey and Coleman.

So according to the reports it’s Kenwright who wants Martinez.
Yes Kenwright, the man who sold Wayne Rooney as a kid to keep himself running the club.
The man who has presided over the longest barren run of silverware in the clubs history.
The man who was willing to move the club to outside the city for his own benefit.

I think if we are looking for a man to have absolutely no say in who the next manager should be, that man should be Bill lying arse Kenwright.

Id be more positive about this than most, but i dont think this is the way to go. He wont be as hated obviously as the last guy but itd be another one that would be under major pressure after his first poor run. Itd be another indicator of poor management from above and no real plan

The only hope is that he has seriously improved his defensive coaching over the years. You see a lot of national coaches spend their considerable spare time going to the best in the world to learn off and I hope he has spent a lot of that time in Italy.

If you mix Martinez’s positivity, his attacking football with a solid defensive set up and you will do much better than we have been used to over the last 5 years.

That being said, we really need a coach on an interim basis that can create a solid defensive line up and for that reason, Martinez is too much of a risk.
