I’ve always thought Roberto was a good guy and his clear love for EFC means I’m inclined to root for him. Bit like Poch with Spurs he’s always talked about unfinished business. The problem is that for us to even entertain bringing him back he’ll have to have clearly demonstrated an evolution and improvement in his skills, especially from a defensive standpoint. Watching his very talented Belgian squad the last few years i genuinely don’t see any sign of him adding the bits needed. Never say never but i don’t think he’s anywhere near up to the task at this point

We had big set piece problems under Moyes.

It's an absolute fallacy to claim all was well under Moyes in that respect.

We had a concede less goals problem under Moyes.

In the two seasons before Martinez we conceded 40 goals each season. Martinez first season 39. The next one was 50, the one after 55. Koeman came in and initially at least got them defending again, 44 and back up the table.

I didn't actually say all was well under Moyes and I'm no fan of his but it would take a special kind of fool to not acknowledge that first time around Martinez had a decent platform to build on. Whomever comes in now will not. This is not all down to Benitez but we are in a worse position than when he took over.
