Very funny article. Favourite bit was him implying that as our budget was similar to Fulham and Villa, he did well to keep us up! Kinda forgetting that we were a top 6 team when took us over.

As for the famous Martinez "Style"; admittedly we played far too much hoofball under Moyes, and when he (RM) first came in - getting the ball down and keeping it was a welcome return to football which was easier on the eye.

But lets not pretend RM is any genius for saying we should keep the ball and pass it, not exactly rocket science is it. Sounds like RS supporters who went on about Rodgers like he invented passing, and Klopp like he's invented tackling.

In the end aimless passing around the back with no end product, is no different to aimless hoofs up front with no end product.

It's actually worse.

The closer the ball is to your goal the more likely you are to concede and less likely you are to score.

The closer the ball is to the opposition goal the more likely you are to score, and less likely you are to concede.

Well kinda, thats a very basic way of looking at it but one that seems to be taken by certain managers.

Honestly I think the hate for Martinez comes less from him as an actual person, or even what he did, but more from the aggressive and vicious cult in his honour that was fostered during his run as manager

I've honestly never seen anything quite like it on here. There was literally nothing comparable from the Moyes Era. To me, the extreme and almost irrational hate that Martinez gets on here is a direct response to the intense deification he enjoyed amongst his followers, which ultimately isn't his fault. He was just trying to manage a football club, but had things attributed to him that just shouldn't have been

I really think the Martinez Era left some deep wounds on here, wounds that are yet to truly heal. It doesn't help that some of the most hardened followers of Martinez have been going after his successor at every turn for any small grievance, thus having the two pronged effect of not letting the anti-Martinez brigade have any real closure, whilst also fostering a desire in some people to be overly defensive when it comes to Koeman, thus in turn planting the seeds for a new cult, the Koemanista's

It really is a giant mess if I'm being honest, and very little of it actually has anything to do with Martinez himself, but rather the way people react to what he did and still does

I think this is a little exaggerated my friend.
Big Dave doesn't like RoKoe but he shouldn't be forced to.
I was a big Bobby fan and i've said many times that our Dutch overlord has won me round.
So i'm not sure there is as much division as you suggest, unless i'm missing fallen members of the Catalan Club?

@davek If Martinez didn't sell Naismith then we would have had an even bigger points total this season.Naismith would have been a better option to bring on off the bench than Kone, but Martinez in his infinite wisdom thought that Niasse would be an upgrade on Naismith.lol
