He will be crucified every game he plays and rightfully so for his actions.

He has made a very very dangerous and stupid mistake but he was a very young man who I feel needs help and this is a huge opportunity to highlight how abuse can be hidden and unspoken.

The argument of "we all make mistakes" is not strong enough argument but it's a minefield which if it wasn't a high profile personally, he would be just simply ignoring and every would move on which sadly happened far too much in these investigations.

I am not making excuses for him but this current toxic masculinity period seems to be the norm. He still has time to be a positive and long effective impact on a truly dark subject matter.

I think of my own sons, and if this was them, I would be horrified and sickening. I couldn't forgive them but I would want them to make amends, reflect and chance.

But how what could someone do to already reverse what has already been done?

Manchester United have been shocking in their total denial, gaslighting of their own Women's teams and frankly it's pathetic but I think sadly is another chapter of the modern game which seems to not care along as the money rolls in.

I’d say sex crimes are firmly in the category that “we all make mistakes” does not apply

If he wants to play togger, Saudi surely?

Being a footballer is such a privileged job, it shouldn’t just be a case of him packing up and going to another country to ply his trade. As a sport collectively clubs, sponsors and the industry need to turn their back on him. What message does it send to young boys looking up to their role models. Do what you like because there’s absolutely no comeback. Or worse yet what message does it send to women, even in your relationships you aren’t safe and as a society we won’t protect you from one of your most basic fears. Infact not only will we not protect you we’ll continue to celebrate the guy that did it to you.

It's a minefield this one. Whilst I think the tapes were damning and I wouldn't want him here because of them, the fact is that he wasn't found guilty. Should all people who are not found guilty be refused work for the rest of their lives? If he worked in a supermarket should he be let go and forced to sit on the dole? Or does it only apply to well paid jobs? Or just public ones? Is it ok to make £1m pa as a tech CTO but not ok to make £100k playing in league 1?

I'm pleased it's United's problem and not ours.

We all heard the recordings. That his accuser decided it was an ordeal she didn’t need to face him in court doesn’t take away from what you can see and hear.

Wouldn’t want him anywhere near us and every united fan I know thinks the same.

Oh ... has social media ruled him guilty then? I had believed that the legal case didn't progress ... meaning he hasn't actually been found guilty of the allegation. That's how things work isn't it?

Can't say I've been following it mind. What I can't change I show little interest in as I grow older.
You know the vast majority of rapes and sexual assaults don't get prosecuted, right? Does that mean they didn't happen?

You mean grizzled, cynical, observant, less accepting of mob mindset, more questioning? Yes.

I try not to comdemn without first hand evidence. Call it the scientist in me if you like.

Go listen to the recordings that formed the basis of the allegation then. Y'know, be questioning and sceptical and all that.

Unfortunately for this scumbag we all heard it, it isn't hearsay, it is very damning evidence. Now the cynic in me says it didn't get prosecuted because maybe staying with him makes them millionaires if he plays top flight football. I believe £££££ signs trumped a court case. I feel sorry for her, imagine having such low self esteem that you stay with someone like that.

Only my opinion like, he will forever be remembered for that audio and should have been sacked for bringing the club into disrepute. I wonder if he hadn't been classed as a potential world class player and was bog standard, would he be kept on, hmmmm.

There was no trial, there are no findings of guilt or innocence either way. Less than 2% of domestic abuse cases ever see a court case.

In a certain sense, football is on trial here and society. How should we deal with instances of domestic abuse? Victims rarely report domestic abuse, likewise victims of rape.
