I think part of that is just our perception/expectation as fans. It happens a lot with academy players too. They come in for a game or 2 and you think they're acquitting themselves pretty well all things considered, but the more you see of them the more you start to realise what they're lacking, and the leeway you were giving them to start with starts to fade as you expect them to function like a proper first teamer. Holgate is error prone in my opinion, and the longer he plays for the more errors you notice.

I’d say he has had plenty of good games. He just doesn’t usually string them together.

I’d honestly rather play Delph at RB than Holgate, but appreciate that depends on him and Coleman both staying fit.

Delph has never played at right back though lol

Not sure how he is versatile when he is poor as a right back and poor as a centre back. Being versatile is actually playing two positions very well, such as Richarlison. Not good enough, I'd sell at 10m.

Sell at £10mill then have to buy -
2 better players for £20mill+ X2
Or
1 player that covers 2 positions that's better for £20mill+

And still have to buy another CB.

Delph:l predominantly LB for City IIRC.

He also didn't technically play left back for City. Played a wing/back midfielder similar to what Pep had Philip Lahm had a Bayern .

Try doing that with our squad lol

Or sell for £10m and put that towards signing Zouma and use Gibson as back up, if not Gbamin, and sign a right back on loan.

Problem with conclusions is that the majority of the time they are completely wrong. Such as claiming Dowell is some sort of magician we shouldn’t be letting go lol

Yeah that was the point. He's error prone, so he can play 90 minutes without making errors but not 270 minutes or whatever, so the more he plays the worse he looks, because the errors start to stack up. It's a popular misconception that the step up to the Premier League is a massive one in terms of individual games. It's not. There are hundreds of players in the lower leagues who wouldn't look out of place if you parachuted them into our side for a game or 2, the issue is being able to do it consistently. The measure of quality is not how good you can be at your best, it's how often you can be at your best.

I do think we should start looking at replacing him in the next season or so to be fair

Still gives his all but he just hasn't been the same since the injury

If anything, I'd be giving Holgate a fair number of games this season to prepare him for the season after

got to be honest, even with zouma/someone else, we need to keep holgate, at least until January. Unless we go all last summer again and weirdly buy two centre backs when we were only expecting one.

they can't possibly ban him. Everyone else that's been done has just been fined haven't they? If they do ban him we'll accept being done like a kipper again and treated totally differently to all the top 6 and that annoys me.
