Like any (well most) defenders he will play better with a proper run of games. We can't give him that right now (nor does he deserve it ahead of the other 3).

Coming in and out of the team randomly is not good though. I don't really get why we are chopping and changing the back four all the time and especially the centre backs. It's no coincidence to me that the more we chop and change the more goals we concede and the less comfortable the defenders look.

Mina and Keane was working fine, Godfrey and Holgate can fill in anywhere as needed. To play two centre backs who have never played together in a top flight game on a horrible night weather wise was just asking for trouble.

Are people still trying to say Keane hasn't been good this year?

It's starting to get a bit tiresome really. He's been excellent and when he doesn't play we are a mess.

He has.

But all I'm saying is the same criticism of Holgate you put has been labelled at Keane too. The player that can't judge a long ball and gets bullied easily.

Players need a run of game and consistency. Godfrey or Holgate at CB haven't had that this season. The only time they have is at fullback.

Keane was poor in his first year here but I think he's done ok since and has been excellent since the restart of last season. Holgate has never looked secure enough for me. He struggles in the air and is prone to lapses of concentration. His passing last night was the biggest concern though. We just couldn't get up the pitch at all because he played square almost every time and still managed to lose it on several occassions.

People underestimate how important centre halves are in getting the team up the pitch. For me, they were as big a problem as the powder puff midfield. It was a hard watch.

I thought he was absolutely dire last night tbh. One of the prime issues we had first half was that both CB’s weren’t looking for a forward ball....at all. I was screaming for him to be hooked at HT to be replaced by Keane. Didn’t happen and then he’s caught square and unreactive for their first goal. Then mystifyingly he put Keane in at CB but kept him on, whilst losing at home to effing Fulham, as Holgate offers absolutely nothing going forwards, when we desperately needed something down that flank. All he ever does is receive the ball in the advanced FB position and lay it square or backwards.

Carlo will have a call to make Wednesday.

Coleman surely has to be out of the picture for Wednesday and in theory Holgate should be too. But if Holgate doesn't play it'll mean shifting Godfrey over to the right back position. Digne still doesn't look 100% at it to me which is understandable. I'd rather have him left wing with Godfrey behind him until he's back to full fitness.

Holgate has been poor for a number of weeks, last night was next level poor though. It was a shocker.

I see its Holgates turn to get slaughtered on social media.

Last year he was our best defender.....linked to CIty and hailed by so many...now he is terrible and the worst at the club.

Bi-polar fans again.

Lad is just a bit out of form, played loads of football....had 3 different centre back partners in as many games.

A lot of people have turned on him, most agreed he was our best cb last season. I've never believed in the hype train thus far, the reality is though he's a cb being asked to play at rb and expected to get crosses in and run the channels.

The Stones comparisons came from last season, when Holgate had that real purple patch and the rags where linking him to City, due to Stones own woeful form.

Unfortunately, Holgate seems to be one of those players, who only seems to find consistency, when he has a decent run in the team.

Which you can't really blame him for either.

He's gotten better and more settled. But so did Holgate when he practically ousted Keane under Koeman/Silva and played along with Mina/Williams for half a season.

Not saying he had a good game last night either. But even the introduction of Keane didn't stop Fulham from advancing. I wouldn't even point blame on Coleman even though he got mauled until he was hooked.

A defence is only as good as the midfield in front of them for me. The 5 men in the middle of the park didn't lay a glove on a championship midfield. With our fully fit competent defence... we're still conceding if was that bad.

Keane was utter trash till Carlo took over.
