He played well and defended well. As a team they have the top of the league alertness that we lack, it comes from continual attacking for 70 or 80 minutes. We had it for a while in the 80s with Lineker and Heath for a short period.

Or Godfrey/Branthwaite or Godfrey /Mina although probably be too late in season to try them as a partnership after they recovered from injuries.

He’s always played better when he gets a run of games in the middle. Soon as we take him in and out or play him full-back he falls apart.

Think the club realise they dropped a bollock playing him out of position last season and realised it had affected his performances and so far this season have resisted the urge to play him at right/left back. The lad himself has said, ,diplomatically , in interviews he thinks it's the reason of his poor form last season. He probably realises now with Mina and Godfrey out its his chance to claim his stay at Everton that bit longer.

Overall, Godfrey, Holgate, Branthwaite + One senior new CB if its not Mina is not a bad team of 4 central defenders.
Holgate is good enough I think for this.
