Thought he was fairly solid today.

Like it or not I think we'll be seeing a lot of him this season giveb our centre back injury issues.

If we can get him into some kind of form where he doesn't casually pass the ball to the opposition for no reason whatsoever, he could end up being really important this season. I think he's better than Godfrey, personally.

Yep, he'll be starting at Villa Park.

Half of today' game seemed to consist of him heading away a Chelsea corner at near post so he can't be faulted after coming on at short notice.

Certainly rather see him start than Keane as feel Lampard will go 4-3-3 next week if a CM can actually be signed.

Thought we did much better at set pieces today too, think he did well when came on, but he can't medium long pass for toffee, just needs to lay it off to Tarkowski who can see a pass

I like Holgate, he seems to be playing at a decent level the last few months.

Hes knuckled down a fair bit under Lampard.

I'd move him on if the right offer came in, but that's because I'd do that for any player, but he was ok today.

…I’d like to see the penalty back to see where he is because the run was straight down his channel. I think it was Mina who was actually coming across to intercept when Doucoure lost the plot.

He's definitely better defender, more comfortable on the ball and not as brain-dead as Godfrey.

Absolutely no complaints about his performance today.

The problem is - can he replicate that time after time ?

With our injury sitution at CB it's now impossible to move him on in the short term.

Right hand side of a back 3 suits him. Long term I'd prefer a back 4 that didn't include Mason but he played well yesterday and looked more comfortable than Godfrey.

The sad thing is, as a pure defender he ticks the boxes for me. He has pace, he has bottle and a bit of snide, he is very good in the air considering he isn't the tallest. 20 years ago that would have been enough. Nowadays, he is also expected to move out with the ball and start attacks. He has the natural confidence to do that but kest himself down by repeated trying the hollywood ball, which he doesnt have in his locker, instead of a short, simple pass to a teammate. if they can coach that out of him, he actually makes my first 11 each week. For the tecord, he was immense in the air yesterday, won every aerial duel.

Exactly right. And that can be coached out of him. I think he’s very well liked within the squad and the Club. He wouldn’t be in the top 6-7 of my sell list.

I had written him off for his maturity and inconsistency issues.

Saturday he was rock-solid.

I bet coming off the bench helped, he didn't have time to get all anxious. Since he'll be starting Saturday let's see how he does with a week of training as the starter under his belt.
