….big difference now is he’s playing for his football future, no circa £70k per week, no circa £300k pcm. We know he can probably afford to retire but it’ll matter that he wants a deal somewhere.

He’ll be available on a ‘free’, he’ll have his demands but they’ll clearly be considerably lower. I’ve never rated him but I will say that when it matters he usually earns himself a deal, it happened when he last came back from the Baggies and we failed to secure a CB on the last day of the window. He grasped that opportunity and has earned himself a fortune.

Its an example where football has lost since the 80`s. Back then players would bust their guts every game for a pittance of what average players like Holgate have been getting every week. Players played as long as they could back then and still had to get a proper job after their career finished.
