Man U have been "rocked" by the move, according to the Express, which is excellent news since apparently we can only assess potential transfers based on which other teams are interested, and how interested they are. It follows that after this headline, the transfer will now at least 25% more impressive, depending on the degree of their "rocked"ness
 
More of these signings, please! These players like Stones, Galloway or Holgate are much cheaper than buying expensive slightly above average players who cost 5M or 10M. If we can buy 3 or 4 of these Holgates instead of a Kone and 1 or 2 are able to make it, we have 2 players. And if they don't make it, we can still likely sell them for at least some money (like Kennedy or Duffy). I believe this is the only way forward for us.
 
I don't buy the " new John Stones" hype but we seem to have a well developed scouting system at this level and of course we rarely pay out good money if we have to for young players without faffing about e.g. Henen . At the moment we have Kenny the England U18 right back out on loan at a 1st division club, Pennington who was young player of the year last season at Coventry , both these play CB/RB. So somebody must be rating Holgate very highly to spend £1 mill to get him when we have these two in the pipeline as well.

Pennington is still a bit up in the air whether he will come through. We'll have to see how Kenny does on loan. We are developing a strong layer of good young defensive players currently though. It is quite ironic given Martinez has always been accused of lacking in defence.
 
An excellent buy for us and an absolute steal at that price. When you consider Liverpool have just paid 8 million for Joe Gomez we have got the better end of the deal.

It's a big shout to say he'll be as good as John Stones. For the money we've paid if turns out as well as Tony Hibbert it will have been a shrewd buy.

Tbh joe Gomez looks a beast id have had him in a heartbeat
 

I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by this signing if he is cover to Jags and Stones. If Jags is injured tomorrow we are in deep [Poor language removed].

I can't see that we won't go out and sign a more experienced player like Evans (using him as an example) as it would be managerial suicide to go into a season with 2 centre halves and kids.

I don't care what he comes out and says - let's face facts at this juncture whether a fan of him or not, he chats pure bull manure whenever he opens his mouth. What I do care about is what the squad looks like at the end of this window.
