Transfer Rumour Maximillian James Aarons

It's probably an Everton fans thing as well, as you've got someone like Kenny who might fetch a few million if we sold him, whereas Aarons would be anywhere from £20 to £40 million. One may be a lot better than the other, but both have a very similar number of games under their belt, including top flight games, and a similar number of England U21 caps. They're not a million miles apart.
They very much are a million miles apart.
Just using it to highlight that our fans tend to massively under-value our own players and over-value other team's players.
But not all players are the same Bruce.

You cant compare Aarons and Kenny.

1 of them plays regularly for his team, the other has never played regularly for us cos hes utter garbo.

I just can't see Norwich selling Aarons if they win promotion... unless his contract is on the point of ending.

He is young and highly rated, relegation last year did nothing to dampen the reputation of either Godfrey or Aarons.

If Norwich sell one of their best players before they even kick a ball in the Premiership, it will mean they have already accepted relegation.

If the player is as good as he is supposed to be his value will not diminish over the season, in fact it may increase if by then football has returned to something closer to normal.
They'll sell him if someone comes with 30-40m they will because that price is absurd

Agreed, but nobody is going to pay that kind of money, certainly not Everton who already have Coleman and Holgate who can cover that position.
Nah we need a RB for real. Cover means play there in a pinch and I'd honestly argue that Holgate really shouldn't even be doing that. Getting a true starter there is a #1 priority alongside a real goalkeeper for me and paying 30m for the right player I'd be fine with, but I don't think that is Aarons.

To be honest I'm not sure. There's a lad at Napoli (Husaj) who's contract is running down, who would probably be available for a lot less than 35m and is probably a more advanced all round right back.

I do think prices will drop this summer, but you will need to isolate the right sectors. Players of the right age, cliubs under financial pressure, players with ideally 12- if not 24 months on a contract. I think there will still be some bargains to be had.

I think we can make 60m stretch, but tying 30 up in Aarons I'm not sure about. I'm also not convicned Norwich will have much reason to reduce the fee.

Like take Sarr for example, if Watford don't come up, he will be going. You may be able to pick him up for 15-20m which would seem a great price to me (appreciate he's not a right back, but the point stands).

Hysaj (or his agent) came out and said negative things about Ancelotti once he left Napoli.

Scratch him off the list.

I think if you take a look around at right backs who arent at the very top clubs you'll find that there really arent many that you would want.

Hakimi is at Inter but they have money issues, he'd probably cost £40mil but is as much of a guarantee to be one of the best around and can play multiple positons (RB/RM/LM).

Look past him and you have:

Mukiele (Leipzig)
Emerson (Barca/Betis)
Dest (Barca)
Celik (Lille)
Lamptey (Brighton)
Baku (Wolfsburg)

...and of course Aarons.

So you can see if Barca/Inter need the money for Dest/Hakimi and even if they'd want to come or take a gamble on one of the others.

For €35-40mil quoted (£30-34mil) the price suddenly doesnt seem so exorbitant for someone with a lot of games under his belt, English premium with u21 caps...who will have been scouted alongside Godfrey.

If we dont get him, the question then becomes....who do we get?

Theres not many attractive options unless Brands can find a hidden gem somewhere like Brighton did with Lamptey, which is a gamble in itself.

Kenny has played regularly for teams of Norwich's quality though. He was a regular for Schalke, who finished midtable in the Bundesliga. He also has as many PL outings for us as Aarons does for a Norwich side that got relegated. Like I said, I'm not saying they're comparable players, just that this notion that we'll give Kenny away for buttons while lashing £40 million on Aarons is a bit nuts.

Phil Neville won vastly more Titles than Steven Gerrard, they played the same amount of games, 1 of them was 1 of the best midfielders of the Premier League era, the other pointed a lot.

You can only compare talent.

To be a little pedantic, i think it was €35-40mil which is around £30-35mil.

If we did give them Kenny + £25mil i think that sounds more palatable?

He's unproven in the sense that spending 10% or more of our turnover on a young right back would be something of a gamble.
There is always an element if risk in buying any player. We spent big on Moise Kean who was obviously talented. It didn’t work for him at Goodison, but we are going to make a tidy profit.

He looks to my unprofessional eye like a great prospect. The sort you ne3d to buy befor3 they end up at a CL team.
