Because we were competing with Burnley to avoid relegation I watched a number of their games at the end of the season.

I thought Cornet added pace and Energy to a rather pedestrian Burnley team.

His finishing and final ball sometimes were not of a high quality but if they had been better we certainly would not be one of the clubs that could afford him.

He has potential to improve further, at least now he has the experience of playing in the Premiership.

Still only 25 and for a fee of 17.5, the going rate for a Liverpool reserve, it seems a risk worth taking.

Furthermore when cornet signed for Burnley he was only 15 million. Now a similar example of a player going from the French league to the English league is Nicolas Pepe. He went for £72 million. The idea that cornet left for Burnley for £15 million suggests he was a fringe player at lyon and was signing for a lesser club.

He then played a season for Burnley. Had some good cameo performances and a lot of mediocre performances towards the end of the season. He's clearly a bit inconsistent and quite frankly I doubt he is the type of player Everton or Frank should be looking to sign.

I know we are and we do, but this is the reality of our situation.

When/if we can shift some others out that we want to shift out, like Gomes, Gbamin probably, maybe one of the CBs, then we'll have more to play with but that will be towards the end of the window.

In the meantime we have funds that have been freed up by the Richarlison sale but we have to use them wisely and that means having to be careful with not just how much we bid but how we can structure the deals.
